Knowledge is power. And knowledge comes from data. Our business started as a web scraping service, but as our data repository grew, we recognized there was value in the data itself. Today, we not only fuel job boards, we also help businesses make high-stakes decisions and provide essential services thanks to our near-real-time labor market data. Thanks to everyone who shared my initial post about the job seeker data story I'm working, and special thanks to people who have already filled out the survey. ICYMI: I want to document the experience that job seekers are having in the current market, and see what trends emerge. If you're interested in contributing some data, participating is very easy. Just fill out an anonymous survey that will take <5 minutes to fill out. For those who participate, I'd be glad to feature you directly in the piece to tell my audience about your amazing skills if helpful. (There's a spot in the survey to tell me if you're interested in that.) Thanks for considering and for sharing with the job seekers you know! Reposts much appreciated. 📢 I've been producing, analyzing, and deriving insights from labor market data for over 20 years. I'm honored and excited to present "Getting Started with Data 101" with my colleague Joshua Wright to an audience of workforce professionals, chambers of commerce, economic developers, educators, and employers looking to leverage labor market data for informed decision-making. 🎯 I'm a product of our US federal statistical system. Having produced official government data, I believe wholeheartedly in using federal and state sources of #LaborMarketInfo as foundational to developing strategies for workforce development, economic planning, and education alignment. But as labor markets become more uncertain, real-time labor market data from online job postings and workers' profiles can enhance official statistics. When official sources are lagged or lack detail, real-time data can help identify inflection points and magnitudes of change in the supply and demand for workers so that businesses, educators, and workforce and economic developers can react quickly to market changes. Combining and optimizing all sources of LMI--from official statistics to real-time data--is increasingly a must. #TalentPipelineManagement #TPMNetwork #WorkforceDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment #TalentPipeline #TalentIntelligence #WorkforcePlanning #DataDrivenDecisions Lightcast

For us, data scientists, it is important to make sure all features are what you expect them to be.🎯 There's nothing more frustrating than disregarding a client's salary because it's unpredictive, only to find out later it was treated as a character, making clients with 100 almost equal to 100,000. Or doing the same with dates and discovering all activities on the 1st of the month are significant by mistake because the date was ordered alphabetically. We could go on and on, but the bottom line is - check your data types!✅

New report from Lightcast.io warns of skilled labor shortage looming. Causative factors include retiring boomers, dropping birth rates, and historically low labor-force participation. Employers must pivot their talent pipeline strategies by casting the hiring net wider and considering applicants formerly screened out. This bodes well for community college graduates. Employers are urged to prepare by embracing skills-based hiring strategies over higher level degrees. Colleges and Employers, please download and read: The Rising Storm Building a Future-Ready Workforce to Withstand the Looming Labor Shortage. https://lnkd.in/gdwa-Rrj The report advises employers: (1) "Open the door wide in order to reach as many applicants as possible. This means job descriptions need to be clear and open-minded, ideally also oriented around future training and reskilling." (2) "Just as hiring managers themselves need to revise their mindset from one of abundance to one of scarcity, they need to update their technology to match. Any applicant tracking system used should be constantly reviewed to make sure they are letting as many differently qualified people through as possible. Best practice would be to regularly review applicants that were screened out to see if they would make good candidates." (3) "The best way to make sure a worker has all the skills they need for a job is to teach those skills. This applies for new hires but also longtime employees that can be upskilled and reskilled into other kinds of work or positions higher up in the organization."
