I don't write about swimming on here, but I am now or at least I am today anyway. 🤷♂️ Swimming has been part of my life since I was 12...it actually WAS my life from age 12 to 22. As a closeted gay person, swimming WAS my identity - it was my life, it was my outlet, it was (for the most part) my safe space. ❤️ After completing my swimming career in 1999 as a member of University of Nevada-Las Vegas Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Team, I didn't really jump back into the water seriously until November 2019 when I joined Asphalt Green's AGUA Masters Swim Team. Best decision ever. 🏊♂️ Since then, I've competed in two U.S. Masters Swimming Nationals, and found a group of people that have become family - and once again swimming has become my safe space. I've been job searching for the past year, and if I didn't have swimming, or my teammates (and my husband obviously), I'm not sure in which mental state I would be. 😬 Last weekend, I competed in my second Masters Nationals, earned best (masters) times in all of my events, and brought home some hardware. Love, love, LOVE my swim fam!
Congrats! Next up, Masters World Championships (do they have those?)
We love you, Ryan!
Ryan. I am so thrilled to see you have found the joy in swimming again. Doesn’t it just feel like you can breath again? I run the Viva Las Vegas Masters group and it has brought so many delightful moments and lifelong friends into my life. Wishing you all the best always
This is amazing Ryan!!! Swimming wasn’t just your only identity though - your were kind, friendly, hardworking, and supportive of everyone on the team. That’s what I remember most.
This is so great Ryan and congrats. I don’t think my dad (Guy) is on LinkedIn but I know he would love to see this update. I’m glad swimming has meant so much to you and I didn’t realize you only started at 12! I’m even more impressed!
Love you, Ryry... See you in the AM.
ryan! congratulations! SO major and even apropos with the olympics! how fantastic that you came back!
So happy to see you back in the water where you belong!
Great post Ryan! Albeit this comes from a non-swimmer, (just a swim parent) but I think the comeradie and mutual support on swim teams is stronger than just about any team sport. PS-great swims by you and your teammates this weekend!

3moRyan! That is amazing. I too decided to get back to swimming Masters in January, but not competing yet (those darn shoulders!). I'm just causing chaos on Sundays, in lane 3, at the Ecke YMCA in Encinitas. I'll have to jump in the pool with you if I come to NY (Just realized you aren't in Vegas anymore!) . Just being in the water takes me back to feeling young again... Keep it up!
