We’ve got more lids than your drawer full of Tupperware containers 🤣 Our lids are a little different though and definitely won't get misplaced. The 17-tonne pre-cast lid that’s been lowered onto the deep chamber at our Central Interceptor Hillsborough site won’t be any use to you, but for us it’s a big deal. The chamber that it’s now firmly covering diverts wastewater flows into the shaft. That chamber gives our team access to said shaft to do maintenance on the Central Interceptor tunnel that lies 30-metres underground. And, sticking with the lid theme, across town at our Avondale site, a concrete lid has been gently placed on top of the diversion chamber that redirects wastewater flows from a mini poo tunnel – we call it link sewer C – to the main Central Interceptor tunnel. The main tunnel that all the diversion chambers will connect to is slowly but surely being connected to the local 💩 network. Once that’s done and dusted, the massive tunnel will transport flows of wastewater to Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing. All this mahi will help reduce wet weather overflows into local waterways and onto beaches.
