Last week, I shared a leadership talk on Chapter 13, "Notes Day" from "Creativity, Inc." by Ed Catmull. In this chapter, Ed discusses a challenge highlighted here: "One of the central tenets of our culture—good ideas can come from anywhere, so everyone must feel empowered to speak up—was faltering" (312). Observation: Despite having a culture value of idea-sharing, people weren't doing it. Question: How can we cultivate a culture where individuals feel empowered to speak their minds? Answer: Lead with trust. How? 1. Prioritize Friendship 2. Value Proximity 3. Embrace Honesty 4. Develop Vision 5. Apologize Quickly 6. Be Vulnerable 7. Win Together 8. Share Struggle 9. Recognize Weaknesses 10. Advocate For Them 🧤 Did I miss one? For more thoughts on these concepts, explore the presentation: https://lnkd.in/e2fBH7q2

At last week’s National Character & Leadership Symposium, I was truly inspired by Timothy Alexander's powerful story of resilience and perseverance and how, not just as a leader, but as a human being, you can reach your full potential. I was finally able to put all my thoughts down onto one page, most of them extremely impactful statements TA made. - Empower the person always on parade. The greatest condition that we can value as human beings is the ability to start first with our mind. The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter their life if they alter their attitude of mind. If your attitude is not what it should be, then you can change it. - It’s not about what we have, it's about what we do with what we have. - Research shows today that 80% of our thoughts are negative. 20% of some of our thoughts are positive. - The power of a growth mindset compared to a fixed mindset. - When an emergency happens, we are taught to run from instead of running to. - You can either fix your mind on what you see or you can grow your mind on what you can become. - How can you serve someone else, if you don’t know how to serve yourself? - How can we want the best out of people when we don’t start with having the best thoughts in the first place? - How many of us make simple things very very hard? We make the simple things hard. We make it so hard to start with a positive thought. We make it so hard to find appreciation for what have and not find appreciation for what we do. - Get better at 1 thing every day. 1%. We all have a 99% chance of success if we start with the first thing - our mind. - No one likes being told that they are doing something wrong. No one likes to be told that they have flaws. Make them challenges. Challenge yourself to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Life will not tell you when the moments you face will be uncomfortable. - Commit to your decisions. Commit to your visions. Your vision equals your progress. A true measure of a champion is not what they do when they win, but how they act when their back is up against a wall. - Life is not about what you go through, it's about what you GROW through. Most people are just going through the motions instead of growing through the moments. “𝐖𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲, 𝐰𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞."
