People, lets have a look. I spent a super afternoon on the 30th December at the Leicester Riders photographing people. Leicester Riders are the longest established professional basket ball team in the country, that is heritage and experience so for a very long time, people have been turning up and paying to watch. You see, that connection right there, people will pay to watch so they are both emotionally and financially invested. Why? Many people like sport, many watch, many pay to watch because there is that sense of belonging to something bigger, being part of a team, supporting a team because when they win, everyone feels better. Leicester Riders have many supporters and many companies who sponsor at various levels, all of which supports the team to be able to be the best it can. Robert Paternostro has been head coach for 15 years, that is a huge investment by him, true dedication and this also generates a feeling of family because he has dedicated himself to the team, so others feel they can do the same, Rob is a great example of team work. I photographed Miryne Thomas as he gave a post match debrief to the sponsors, a lovely way of saying thank you and he is a delight to listen to, so enthusiastic! People love recognition and being part of something that makes them feel good. If I’m lucky, I’ve only 37 All Ireland football finals left I saw this graphic in a recent LinkedIn post by Christian Mather and really liked it. Initially I thought, oh, if I’m lucky and live to 90, the time I’ve left looks shorter than I’d have imagined and the number of times I’ll have the opportunity to experience things is finite. Then I thought, hold on, this is a brilliant opportunity. I should use it as a wake-up call to ensure I use the time well. Take All-Ireland football finals. If I go every second year, I will only experience that magical day 18 or 19 more times. So why not go every year? I’ve only 37 Christmas days left, 37 summers, 37 birthdays to celebrate with my family. I should try to make sure I enjoy everyone as much as I can. Thinking about our life expectancy in these terms brings home the importance of being a lot more intentional about how we allocate our time. If we are, surely this will reduce the chances of experiencing regret later in life. The saying, “Life is not a rehearsal”, has never seemed more accurate. Navigating the Terrain of Race has been earning rave reviews It includes the Legacy Edition of Equally Yours, an amazing games-based tool that transforms the learning experience. Dr Justin Varney, Head of Public Health at the council said: "Having worked in several large organisations before, this is the first time I have seen this level of bravery and honesty in getting into an uncomfortable space and starting the journey so openly. "We don't know what we don't know and taking time to educate ourselves and understand the context of how someone else is reacting to the same event or incident can be a powerful exercise. "Unpacking this is uncomfortable as it requires personal insight and reflection from more than one person but the benefits are potentially bold and brilliant. "I can already see that it has had an impact and the conversations we are having now are moving us forward step by step towards a better and more inclusive way of leading and serving." Nathan and Sabrina have delivered the training to a host of new clients as well as familiar friends. Nathan said: "We started work with West Midlands Combined Authority via their Race Action Task Force, getting the ball rolling and looking at systems change and creating safe spaces to talk within the organisation when it comes to race. Should you specialize or generalize? I like seeing debates around this topic. It’s like a 41-man battle royal (wrestling) 😅 There are two camps. Camp A (Specialists) preach against generalisation. While the other camp (Generalists) preach against specialisation. I used to be pro-specialist because I’m one of them. But my view has changed over time. To answer the question: I think it depends. I know some generalists who are crushing it. I also know specialists who are crushing it. I’d say start by identifying what your strengths are. Are you a multifaceted creative (good at many disciplines)? Or are you like me who’s good at one thing? If you’re good at many things, don’t box yourself. Embrace that side of you. If you’re good at one thing, don’t try being like the other guy, you’ll fail terribly. Focus all your efforts on that one thing you’re good at. At the end of the day, both camps win. Side note: I'd argue specialists make more cheese (money) than generalists 🤑 For example, a GP (General Practitioner) vs a specialist (Gynaecologist).
