These past few months, I, alongside my fellow project managers challenged ourselves to work on a community street project in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) area sponsored by Non Profit Organisation Westway Trust . We did a Refurbishment of Acklam Public Washing Facilities in Portobello Area. Dr Marwan Elnaghi from the RBKC accepted our request to be our consultant and mentor for this project. Our role is to consult and give solution on the operational model of the facilities. There are a lot of lesson learned from this project, however seveeal key takeaways are; firstly, choosing the right people for the team is necessary. A high commitment from all team members is the key to a good successful team. We also learned that failures and blockers are inevitable, thus a skill set to rebuild timelines, budget, overall plan and scope is important for a project manager to have. A good relationship and communication with everyone involved is also non negotiable. Moreover, in order to do a project in cooperation with other organisations well, we have to know the clear roles and boundaries for each entities.
