Tangata whenua have been clear this week – Māori want mana motuhake. Roughly five percent of Aotearoa’s whenua is Māori freehold land, about 1.4 million hectares. The Māori Trustee administers about 80,000 hectares of this land. We’re actively working in partnership with whānau or Māori landowners around the motu to support their reconnection with that whenua and build up the skills, knowledge and structures they need in place for self-governance.
