Excelente HACIA! We don’t get to see often to have our elected officials one on one. We talked about the roadblocks contractors face working in public jobs city and state. Our government should look at removing retention clauses and have a more efficient promp paymet act. We support HACIA on pushing to eliminate retention on projects. Agencies have to leave the comfort zone and work with minorities and remove retention. These projects are already bonded which helps to protect the interest of the project and the agency. Contractors will not walk away from a job just becuase we are paid 100% on each draw! to the contrary this will keep us all engaged and motivated because we are no longer waiting years to collect retention. #makeretentionbeacrime #promppayment

Associate Professor and Co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Center on Assistive Technology @ UCL and co-Founder and Director of GDI Hub CIC
When I found out I'd been nominated for the Shaw Trust #DisabilityPower100 list for 2023, my first thought was: there are so many more deserving people for this list, than me. The irony of being nominated for an award that is essentially for being 'influential while mental' (my shorthand not the Shaw Trusts, I should add) and then being immediately anxious and feeling undeserving about it was not lost on me. Identity is a deeply personal thing and how we wear it is subjective. But identity is also fundamentally political. It was political to come out at 22 as a queer woman and to love out loud. It was political to re-enter academia as the first person in my family to go to university when I'd previously thought being an academic just wasn't for people like me. And it has been both intentional and political to speak honestly about the challenges I've faced leading Global Disability Innovation Hub as someone who lives with two mental health conditions. On a good day, the privileges I enjoy (support, education, free time to exercise and rest, nutritious food, assistive tech, medication etc) allow me to manage my conditions in ways I know others in lower-resourced settings simply don't have the option to. On a bad day, none of these things really make much difference. Some of those bad days I've sat on global boards, presented at massive UN events, or tried to inspire my team. It takes a huge amount to keep going on those bad days as many people will relate. Some days I didn't manage to keep going in the way I wished I could have and i've had to learn deep compassion for myself. I've had to take weeks off every year because of my mental health conditions - while trying to keep all the plates spinning. (Huge thanks to the team for this too!) And it has been really very hard. But as Glennon told us, we can do hard things! And today is a good day. Today I choose joy, gratitude and pride. I want to say a huge thank you. I'm honoured to be included among such giants of our movements. Also to everyone I've worked with in this brilliant sector, who taught me how to keep going and where to give my energy. 🙏🏽 My PhD centred the ideas of identity and recognition for the poorest people (disabled slum dwellers in Sierra Leone). And the research taught me that being seen for who you truly are is a fundamental part of the process of finding freedom. The conclusion to four years of research, was that being recognised is a necessary factor in striving for disability inclusion and justice. So I know that this is important. Thank you.💜

Some forms... There's no single thorough-point to make amends for discretion. With that problem, the conventions of addressing society, in the case as a network of large and small communities, is certainly business first. Why ever communities conform without politics or what remainder implies their development focal to demonstrations, is an abuse as I've recognized, given to discredit factors which can be experienced. The scarce reality is consistently confronted with growth. There are necessities set in path of sharing both mutual and relative ideas, none insisting and almost unforgettable when jeoparded. Being able to solve the simplest problems, the factor which address value, confute of even passive tendencies to negotiate principles. In order to network, the maximum advantage is by a technical-bias, to reform the beliefs that matter to its instance as can be a significant way to provisions which keep organization intact. These relationships might be effective. In an effort to support them, the focus can be reassuring and anything less than persuasive. Some factors are rational, with options as with segments, if there were any significance made to determine strength, and what factors play into ways people respond to their environment. As with politics, much of the policy is a meeting point for what is done naturally. As since everything can be an answer to a greater question.

We prioritise interactive dialogue between our Conversation Leader and all attendees, and follow with the Chatham House Rule to promote open, honest and inclusive dialogue. These small group conversations provide unparalleled access to incredible thinkers and doers like Emma, who is pushing the envelope of deliberative democracy and citizen engagement. Seats are limited to ensure that everyone can participate. You can register your seat on our website: https://lnkd.in/g8dDWh8f. Tickets are free for Folio members | $20 for guests.
