Great session today. 😍 Very impressive results when we focus on BEING PRESENT, which has been the skill of our RESILIENT LEADERSHIP practice today. After a moment of mindfulness, we embraced the task of defining the criteria for sustainable purchases, procurement or sourcing. Hereby, I share what the practitioners created in our short practice: Criteria for Sustainable Purchases (for individuals and also for companies): ℹ Be informed: gather the information about what it really means to be sustainable for that particular item, what is available, and what I (we) need to know before I (we) start ❓ Question yourself: do I (we) really need this? Is my acquisition going to be meaningful or not? May I challenge myself or my company about this acquisition? What are the proper challenges to pose? 📊 Buy less! Ask yourself and your company how much do you really need of something, avoiding waste and also, is it possible to buy repurposed, used or recycled items for this case? 🏷 Know my (our) labels! Be sure to understand the meaning of different labels or certifications. Use the knowledge also to learn who you are supporting with your acquisition. 📗 Be critical of the products you buy - greenwashing is all over, and we need to acknowledge that. This is an extra challenge as more companies engage with becoming more sustainable and promoting themselves. The takeaways people reported today from our session: 🎯 "Giving a break, a space between ideas, was very effective." 🎯 "It helps to repeat other's ideas for understanding before jumping in to give my input - it allows me to reflect on what has been said and better connect with the other person." 🎯 "The way we practised the conversation, being very present and proactively listening, helps to stay focused on the subject and ideas rather than thinking about how to respond." 🎯 "I really enjoyed the mindfulness practice, even if it was challenging for me. My mind keeps running." That is all, folks; thanks for joining. 🙏 If you like what you see here, join us for 45 minutes every Wednesday 08:00 am CET. How do you lead people through uncertainty and hold space for creativity? I was prompted to think about this at last week's Leadership Victoria Alumni Conversations and Connection event. Panellists Mariela Diaz, Fatima Everitt and Jason Coonan covered three intersecting topics: leading through crisis, creativity in decision making, and innovation. With real life examples each panellist brought forth their experience and what matters most when leading others. My four key takeaways: - Make space to build trust with those around you - Assess where you’re leading from for the scenario (behind, middle, front) - Invite diverse viewpoints and experiences into ideas and decisions - Keep evaluating and adapting the plan. Thanks for the night of conversations and an opportunity to reflect on my own leadership practice.

In need of some brain stimulation for this holiday season? I have a gift for you. I have collated all my recent writings on leadership into a carefully crafted whitepaper for you to read during these days. This piece isn't just for those in official leadership positions but for anyone eager to learn how to lead from their current standpoint. "I have often seen more leadership among the folks at the fringe, influencing their organisation from the side, than in the actual boardroom." New perspective on leadership development ('LD') in organisations and unintended negative consequences. IMO a must-read for any organisation considering LD programmes, particularly with respect to the potential for longer-term fallout on employee work demands and resources!
