📣 A turning point in unifying funding for Aus health and medical research. We welcome news that our two major funding bodies NHMRC & MRFF will work together under a new structure. What does this means for our sector? For our world-leading medical research institutes, better aligned funding will mean reduced grant duplication and administrative burden, as well as more sustainable and rewarding careers for our talented researchers. Our granting systems have needed reform. Now, collaboration between NHMRC and MRFF funding bodies represents a step forward in creating a cohesive and strategic approach to how medical research is supported and carried out in Australia. "We look forward to this new era of improved funding approaches and working with Government to play our part in shaping a sustainable and integrated system to secure the future for Australian medical research," says AAMRI CEO, Dr Saraid Billiards. Exciting Milestone: $18.8 Million Boost for the National One Stop Shop for Clinical Trials and Health Research I am immensely proud to share a significant achievement that's been years in the making. Thanks to the relentless dedication and hard work of the Clinical Trials Project Reference Group, now called the Inter-Governmental Policy Reform Group (IGPRG), $18.8 million has been secured to advance the National One Stop Shop for clinical trials and health research. This initiative, a testament to the transformative power of collaboration, represents a significant step forward for health and medical research in Australia. The journey to this point has been filled with persistent efforts, deep and broad consultations, detailed negotiations, and an unwavering commitment to listening and understanding the needs within our sector (too many to mention but for one example the R&D Taskforce). A commitment to remain steadfast, undeterred by challenges, and focused on strategic objectives has paid off, and it's time to move forward at full speed. Scientists & physicians in #academicmedicine pioneer discoveries and innovations, bringing them from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside. The advances that come from this research, much of which is supported in part by federal agencies, lead to new cures, preventive interventions, diagnostics, and treatments for disease that improve the lives of millions of patients. At the AAMC, we guide our members to prepare a diverse medical research workforce and to champion an environment in which medical discovery can flourish. From foundational science to clinical applications, a strong commitment to discovery benefits people everywhere, and federal policies that promote a thriving national research agenda are key to this goal. https://ow.ly/lPHX50R5IBX #MedResearchMatters #BenchtoBedside #medschool #teachinghospital

AAMRI has delivered a cost-viable, sustainable plan to the Federal Government to establish a program to support the full costs of research for MRFF-funded grants. Importantly, these funds are already available. Currently, Australia’s medical research funding system is leaving scientists without sufficient funds to cover the full costs of undertaking their research. “Being able to meet these costs is critical to seeing high-quality medical research continue in this country. The growing gap between what Government grants actually pay for and the additional funding required to deliver the research is running institutes further and further into deficit.” explained AAMRI President, Prof Liz Hartland. 💡 What's our solution? AAMRI is advocating for a Government-funded support program for the MRFF - like the Independent Research Institutes Infrastructure Support Scheme (IRIISS) model that exists for NHMRC-funded research. 💰 How will this be paid for? The Future Fund’s Board of Guardians, who oversee investments from the MRFF, determined in Oct 2023 that the max. annual distribution for research grants in 2024-25 is $973M. However, the amount to be distributed in the 2024-25 FY is $650M, meaning there’s up to $323 million in funding available that hasn’t been allocated. AAMRI delivered its plan, on behalf of our sector, as part of our submission to the Gov’s 2024-25 budget, which will be handed down on 14 May 2024. We look forward to working with the Government on our plan to reform Australia’s medical research funding system and secure the future for our medical research institutes. More on this to come! The Power of Clinical Research: Science Shaping the Future! May 20th is celebrated as International Clinical Trials Day. This day commemorates James Lind, who is recognized for conducting the first controlled clinical trial in 1747. Lind's work laid the foundation for modern clinical research and demonstrated the importance of systematic testing in medical practice. By comparing the effects of different treatments on sailors suffering from scurvy, he established a scientific method that continues to guide clinical trials today. International Clinical Trials Day aims to highlight the crucial role of clinical research in advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. It underscores the importance of clinical trials in developing new treatments, medications, and health technologies. By raising awareness, the day seeks to inform the public about the benefits and processes of clinical research, promoting greater understanding and participation in clinical trials. Additionally, this day is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the contributions of patients who participate in clinical trials, as well as the healthcare professionals and researchers who conduct these studies. Events and seminars held worldwide on this day focus on educating the public about the ethical standards, safety protocols, and significance of clinical trials in bringing innovative healthcare solutions to the market. #ClinicalTrialsDay #WorldClinicalTrialsDay #ClinicalResearch #MedicalResearch #JamesLind #InnovativeHealthcare #MedicalAdvancements #ClinicalTrials #ResearchMatters #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #ClinicalStudies #HealthResearch #Fibula #FibulaHEALTH #FibulaCRO #FibulaResearch

Let the clinical trial begin! 🚀 We can announce the long-awaited news: the pre-clinical usability study on DINO by Paperbox will be carried out together with Gemelli Digital Medicine & Health — GDMH spin-off of Gemelli IRCCS, one of the most important hospitals in Italy. This collaboration represents a significant step towards the revolution in the early identification of Specific Learning Disorders (#SLD) in children and an important milestone towards achieving our goal: to be able to put on the market a valid, functioning and certified medical device! In fact, the study will evaluate the effectiveness of DINO in monitoring behavioral parameters such as attention and spatial ability with the use of screens and video games, to demonstrate how beneficial they can be, visibly improving traditional practices! In this collaboration, the Hospital will provide multi-specialised resources, including regulatory and medical expertise to guide the clinical protocol, collect and analyze clinical data, coordinate study activities and publish clinical studies. The Principal Investigator for this study is professor daniela chieffo, associate professor at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, a renowned authority in clinical psychology at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS whom we are proud to have at our side on this journey. On Paperbox side the study will be coordinated by Giacomo Pratesi and Alice Ravizza as Product Technical Director and PRRC respectively. Stay tuned for updates on the project's progress and in the meantime, explore further details on this initiative at www.paperbox.health . Joining a research study or clinical trial can involve a lot of alphabet soup for the patient given all the complexity involved. As noted in a recent #ACRP blog post, a new initiative from The Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center is aiming to provide a glossary of common clinical research terms for use by research professionals and patients alike: https://lnkd.in/duSeQd_8 At Chartis, we strive to work with research leaders to keep patients at the center of their care, including best practices on participant-facing communication and study design. We’re here to strategize on best practices and how to implement in your organization. #ClinicalTrials #HealthLiteracy #ClinicalResearch
