Hi All I would like to say a huge thank you to you The Diana Award for allowing me the opportunity to participate in the Social Action Accelerator Programme for young people. Over the past 6 months it has been a great experience. Mentoring young people has provided me with a unique opportunity to foster growth, both with young people and within myself. Each session including guidance, support, and mutual learning, allowing me to witness first hand the transformative power of mentorship. One of the most profound lessons I learned was the importance of active listening. Creating a safe space where young people felt heard and understood was crucial. This not only built trust but also empowered them to articulate their aspirations and challenges more clearly. Additionally, I discovered the value of adaptability; each session required a tailored approach to address young people evolving needs and goals. Allowing the opportunity for young people to visit Sky Leeds and experiencing what it is like working for Sky was an eye opener to them and they enjoyed every moment. Through this experience, I also deepened my understanding of the barriers young people face in their personal and professional lives. It highlighted the significance of providing consistent encouragement and constructive feedback. Watching young people gain confidence and make strides towards their project goals was immensely rewarding. Mentoring also shed light on the critical issue of social mobility. Many young people face systemic obstacles that hinder their progress, and through targeted mentorship, we can help bridge these gaps. By providing access to networks, resources, and knowledge, mentoring equips individuals with tools to overcome socioeconomic challenges. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the potential of young individuals and the difference that dedicated mentorship can make in their lives, fostering a more equitable society where talent and ambition can flourish regardless of background. Ultimately, this mentoring journey underscored the power of connection and the impact of positive reinforcement in driving social mobility and personal growth. The Diana Award believe that everyone can make a positive change in the lives of disadvantaged young people. I volunteered for The Diana Award’s Mentoring Programme as I share this belief. UPDATE 8.4.24 - The resources have been shared with 141 people so far. It is great to see how many people are pledging to donate to Little Hearts Matter. Please do keep sharing and donating :-) Thank you. Calling Academy Directors, Coaches, Coach Educators, Managers. Maybe a resource you could utilise! During the pandemic Ben Nicholson and I used the time wisely to develop a coaching programme for an independent academy we led. This was based on our learning in the main from leading football coach educator Raymond Verheijen, completing UEFA A licences in England and Ireland and thousands of hours coaching in grassroots, academies, and senior football. Ben and I are not actively coaching now through choice and the different career paths we have taken. We were discussing this coaching programme recently and concluded that it is such a shame that this work that took around a year to produce is just sat on a shelf, so why not share it and hope that it can provide a framework and some use for those working in football. So, what are the resources: 1 – 232 Page Coaching Programme Guide 2 – 127 Page Coaching Programme Sessions 3 – Yearly curriculum The pdf is attached for the Coaching Programme Guide. Should you wish to receive the PowerPoint file for all three resources so you can adapt yourself, please put your e-mail address in the comments box and share this post and we will gladly send it on to you. And if it is a resource that you will find beneficial and saves you time reinventing the wheel, we ask that you make a small contribution to our chosen charity that is Little Hearts Matter. LHM provides support and an information service that reduces the isolation, fear, and the lack of understanding experienced by families when a child is diagnosed with having half a working heart. The link to donate is here Little Hearts Matter - lhm-donate.raisely.com In the coaching programme guide is: - How We Coach - The Coaching Process - How We Support the Coach - Football Language based on FCE principles - Competencies Framework - Developing Football Fitness - How We Develop the Individual (Skill Development Ladder) - How We Develop the Individual (Goalkeeping) - Position Specific Profiles - How We Play (Playing Model) - Formations Guide - Match Days - How We Support the Individual (Off the Field) Enjoy, please share and if you can, any contribution to LHM will be appreciated.
