Since November 18, 2023, the new Energy Efficiency Law (EnEfG) has been in force, which contains far-reaching requirements for large parts of the German economy. Among other things, energy efficiency, waste heat utilisation, and reporting requirements for data centers are established. New and existing data centers that were put into operation or have been in operation before July 1, 2026, must achieve an power usage efficiency (PUE) of 1.5 or less as of July 1, 2027, and 1.3 or less as of July 1, 2030. To achieve this, you first need to measure and then you'll realise that this is quite ambitious and you might only be able to achieve it, by optimisation and better resource utilisation and this is where we at re:cinq can help. Yesterday the CCSA’s UK Director Olivia Powis attended a visit of the HyNet cluster with Industry Minister Sarah Jones MP. HyNet will play a key role in decarbonising the North West of England and facilitating the production of low carbon products. Accompanied by HyNet representatives, the Minister toured two of HyNet’s partners: Encirc near Ellesmere Port, the producer and bottler of 40% of the UK’s glass containers; and Viridor’s Energy Recovery Facility in Runcorn, one of the largest energy recovery facilities in Europe. Olivia Powis, CCSA UK Director said: “CCUS is vital for decarbonising our industrial heartlands and is projected to deliver not just new jobs but also protect those in existing carbon-intensive industries. The Minister’s ongoing commitment to delivering the first two carbon capture clusters – HyNet visited yesterday and the East Coast Cluster - is an important step to meeting the clean power by 2030 target and in building the world’s first large scale integrated CCUS clusters.” Minister for State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Sarah Jones said: “Our industrial heartlands, including here in the North West, must be at the heart of the new government’s industrial strategy. “How we manage to decarbonise these industries whilst not just protecting but growing the number of good jobs and opportunities for people, will determine our success. Lincus is accredited by state agencies in California, Washington, and Oregon to provide third party GHG verifications, as regulated by each state. Over the more than a decade Lincus has spent completing third party GHG verifications, the company has successfully completed verification for hundreds of electricity transactions, electricity generation, cogeneration, and stationary combustion facilities. And over the course of these hundreds of GHG verifications, Lincus has maintained a 100% track record of successfully completing verification services before the regulatory deadline and passing regulatory audits for all selected projects, with no or minimal comments. In 2024 (for the reporting year 2023 data), Lincus completed GHG verifications for 38 reporting entities.
