8 interesting and useful projects to follow ! We believe that such an approach is a key to understanding biodiversity decrease and human impact. As simultaneously a positive outcome is aiming at minimizing our impact upon those endangered species we might have to recommend better public attention to those important matters either well documented such as FMD in wild ungulates in South Africa or TB, YF respectively in lions and Brazilian monkeys or in key areas of climate change withe turtle fertility or dolphin diseases. Microbiology is definitely part of biodiversity ; its study in wild animals one of the bases of one health concept.
Eight new studies are now underway to help elephants, dolphins, sea turtles, lions, tigers, bears and other animals, thanks to the generous support of our donors. The newly funded studies address critical health challenges these animals face, and their impact could resonate for decades — or even generations — to come.

🐨 Why does the health of #wildlife matter? 🐦 Because the health of humans, animals and the environment are intrinsically linked! According to the World Health Organization, 70% of new infectious diseases affecting humans today are of animal origin, and come mainly from wildlife. There is therefore an urgent need to act to better understand the diseases from which these animals suffer and treat them more effectively in order to prevent their spread to humans. The #CevaWildlifeResearchFund has been created iwith the objective to preserve the wild animal health, a field of animal health that is underinvested for not being economically viable. Concretely, this endowment fund finances applied research projects, with quickly observable results, developed by universities or renowned research centers. Full Disclosure folks: I'm terrified of SNAKES. I fully acknowledge that snakes serve as an important part of our natural ecosystem. But still - I don't like them. I don't like pictures of them. I don't even like THINKING of them. While I wouldn't say I have a true phobia of them... I might not be far off. 😀 But the reality is, that a lot of the general public has a bit of anxiety about snakes. This is why, when animal control professionals get the occasional call about a snake, it's so important for them to be calm, professional, and able to address the situation effectively. Animal Control/Animal Welfare professionals - don't miss this great webinar with the incomparable Dave Pauli when he returns to talk about what you need to know about SNAKES, and what you need to know to keep everyone safe. #wildlife #animalcontrol #animalwelfare
⏰TIME TO REGISTER -- Aug 1 Webinar This webinar will explore the issues, the challenges, and the opportunities for agencies and individuals to promote non-lethal snake policies and protocols. Dave Pauli will cover a brief overview of snake biology, the identification of venomous, non-venomous, and exotic snakes, and handling and response protocols for animal control and wildlife professionals. A few case studies will highlight issues like historic hibernaculum (den) location and relocation. Resources will be provided to help attendees enhance their snake response and advisement policies and protocols. 👉Click Here to Register Soon: https://lnkd.in/gm4etiJM #animalcontrol #animalwelfare #wildlife

It is my fortune and privilege to be able to work with the International Rhino Foundation since July 2008 to look after the Asian Rhino Programme. This opportunity from IRF and also my role as the Chair of IUCN/SSC; Asian Rhino Specialist Group has given me wider opportunity to know more about the challenges and opportunities in conservation of three species of #AsianRhinos - #Critically #Endangered #JavanRhino, critically endangered #SumatranRhino and Vulnerable Greater One Horned rhino. All rhino species are protection dependent, as such protection to rhino areas have to be primary focus to secure the future of rhinos. Protection of rhinos can be ensured by stringent vigil within rhino areas and also by garnering support from fringe communities to strengthen the second line of defense. Rhino's future depends on the actions, inactions and reactions of one species, called Homo sapiens! Let's play our role as Homo sapiens to help other species survive in harmony. 🙏
A huge congratulations are in order to our colleague and partner, Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, PhD for his nomination to the Indianapolis Prize! The Indianapolis Prize is the world’s leading award for animal conservation. Every other year, the Indianapolis Prize recognizes animal conservationists whose heroic work has helped save vulnerable and endangered species from extinction. IRF is grateful to have Dr. Talukdar as IRF’s Senior Asia Advisor, leading the charge to preserve rhino populations across Asia. As a dedicated rhinoceros expert who founded Aaranyak, one of Northeast India’s largest conservation and research organizations, Dr. Talukdar’s work to curb poaching and guide rhinoceros conservation research has been featured in more than 80 publications. His dedication to enhancing human-wildlife interactions has led to a decrease in conflict in the Eastern Himalayas over the past two decades.

Happy World Lion Day 🦁 . Yes, World Lion Day is a thing! Supported by World Animal Protection and National Geographic Society, World Lion Day was started in 2013 to raise awareness and gather support for lion conservation. The lion comes from the ‘Felidae’ family of cats, and it is considered to be an apex predator. It is the second largest cat weighing around 130-270 kg, with the largest being the tiger. An average lion’s body is muscular with a short round head and ears, and a tufty tail. Lions also happen to be the only cats who roam around in large groups known as prides. Scientists believe that lions do so because it is easier to catch prey in the wild. Their natural habitats are savannas and grasslands. You will most likely find a pride of lions near water bodies as they strategically wait for prey to come there for a drink and then pounce on them. Question: As lions live in savannahs and grasslands, why are they called the king of the jungle? #worldlionday #wildlife #conservation

International Macaque Week: Post-event summary The first week of May is International Macaque Week, and in May 2024 it was coordinated by the AfA Macaque Coalition. We were thrilled to focus on #MacaquePositivity all week! It warmed our hearts to see research and conservation organizations, rescue centers and zoos, animal protection and advocacy groups, individual photographers and painters, academicians and macaque enthusiasts all join together in celebrating macaques! Over 320 social media posts made use of the hashtag #InternationalMacaqueWeek, often accompanied by #MacaquePositivity. The @InternationalMacaqueWeek page has reached over 9,000 social media users in one month, and peaked on the first day of macaque week - with 3,560+ accounts reached. Many viewers were amazed by macaques' species diversity as can be seen in our most popular content, which highlighted the 24 macaque species worldwide, garnering 71 shares and reaching 5,760 accounts on Facebook alone! For one week, we simply appreciated the macaques' #beauty; the #diversity of the behaviors, colors and shapes they exhibit across different geographic distributions; their abilities to use tools and make sounds to communicate; and that each individual possesses a personality unique to themself. For one week, it was as if macaques were allowed to just live lives! That we had successfully achieved #coexistence! As we pull back from the ideals, we continue to learn about people and macaques, until next year when we come back with a new appreciation for macaques and new reasons for hope.
