Spherical LPG Tank Inspection The LPG spherical tank is a fixed-pressure vessel at normal temperature, with a single-layer tank structure, dedicated to storing liquefied petroleum gas, using steel plates for the vessel, with excellent performance, safety and reliability. The spherical tank is quite important to the storage and production process. It can eroded by the internal medium, and may defects such as corrosion, cracks, holes in the walls and welds. For these reasons, internal inspection of LPG tanks is very important. Also Inspection is a necessary means to ensure the safe operation of the spherical tank. Internal inspection is mainly conducted to identify wear and tear, and corrosion around components such as vessel connections, welded nozzles and seams, and areas near to welds, external controls or fittings, and so on. Unless justified by a RBI assessment, the period between internal or on-stream inspections shall not exceed one half the remaining life of the LPG vessel or 10 years, whichever is less. LPG Tanks are designed to store LPG gas. Leaks or failure in tanks may lead to major accident on site. Inspection is done to identify this failures and leaks in LPG tank. Inspection involves measurements and testing. The inspection is done on non-destructive basis. To improve quality control inspection is most important. Inspection also ensures the safety or reliability of structures. Preparation of Inspection In order to inspect the tank internally, the tank should be decommissioned and an atmosphere should be created in which an inspection expert can work with safely. These processes are generally called Gas free, but itself is not enough for safety. In addition, there must be sufficient oxygen and no toxic vapors or substances inside. Overfilling of LPG Tanks A LPG tank overfill is an incident where the liquid or material being stored in a tank exceeds the tank's operation levels, causing it to overpressure and release LPG with safety valves. Tank overfills can occur in a variety of situations, such as during the filling process, due to operator error, equipment failure, or other factors. But the main factor lack of transfer control. One of the first steps in controlling the transfer is to verify that the product is going into the correct storage tank. Operating parameters such as LPG inlet to the tank, flow rate, vapor pressure, liquid and vapor temperature should be monitored with carefully. All-important parameters should be monitored frequently to ensure that they are within operating limits. There should be a control step at the beginning of all transfer operations to verify that the LPG is actually being directed to the correct point. Clear labeling of pipes and valves is a logical step in can preventing accidents. Incidents have occurred where product was routed into the wrong storage tank due to improper valve operation, leading to overfills. Standard operating procedures should be carefully prepared and followed by everyone. Also, some important questions to ask for safe operations include: Are high-level gauge installed to warn of an impending overfill condition? Can the flow be shut off, or will rapidly closing the valves cause surges or overpressure elsewhere in the transfer pipe? Are there adequate shutoff and isolation valves to rapidly stop or change the flow? (Valve closing times should be according to surge analysis.) What is required to prevent overpressure when the flow is stopped?(There should be open a valve to the other tank through which thermal expansion can flow. If no valve operation the tank PSV will open) During the Tank filling, it is good practice to include periodic level checks to verify that filling quantities are progressing according to expected conditions. (Pumping Log is a good practice) This practice will prompt operators to pay more frequent attention to local or remote gauge readings.
