With existing 3GPP spectrum strategy and new lower mid-band satellite spectrum access, AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) could maximize the potential of its growing in-orbit network, expanding subscriber capacity while enabling peak data transmission speeds up to 120 Mbps to everyday smartphones everywhere in the continental United States. Agreement would pair AST SpaceMobile’s largest-ever commercial communication arrays deployed in low Earth orbit and planned nationwide low-band network with up to an additional 45 MHz of lower mid-band satellite spectrum capabilities, the largest available block of high-quality nationwide spectrum in the United States. AST SpaceMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASTS), the company building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network accessible directly by everyday smartphones, designed for both commercial and government applications, today announced an agreement for long-term access to up to 45 MHz of lower mid-band spectrum in the United States for direct-to-device satellite applications.

𝐈𝐍-𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 The Indian space regulating agency, IN-SPACe, has issued an ‘Announcement of opportunity’ (AO) inviting non-government entities (NGEs) to build, launch, and use a telecommunications satellite. The AO will identify and enable the eligible NGEs to make use of unutilised ITU Filing. The idea is to coordinate using orbital slots and frequencies to avoid satellite interference. For the present AO, the ITU filed, ‘INSAT-KA89ER’, has sought uplink frequencies of 21 GHz to 31 GHz and downlink frequencies of 17.7 GHz to 21.2 GHz. #telecommunications #satellite #frequencies #space #agency

AST SpaceMobile rides stock market high with AT&T, Verizon deal Satellite botherer AST SpaceMobile has confirmed a spectrum sharing deal with both AT&T and Verizon, which will share a portion of their 850 MHz spectrum rights with the startup. This should allow AST to provide a more unified service to US customers, without having to battle two distinct bands. The two MNOs have previously endorsed AST SpaceMobile as their satellite provider of choice. The plan is to use satellite-borne base stations to provide ‘cell towers in space,’ which will serve users that are not sufficiently covered by terrestrial base stations. Here, the joint 850 MHz deal should mean more predictable spectrum allocations and management, as well as ensuring that user devices are ‘listening’ in the same approximate region. #MNOs #satellite #networks
