The future is solar: Australia's Walla Walla Solar Farm begins generating clean energy Walla Walla Solar Farm, FRV Australia's largest large-scale solar project with a capacity of 353 MW, has generated its first kilowatt-hour of clean energy. This is another stepping stone in the path of our strong commitment to energy transition and sustainability goals in New South Wales (NSW). Key impact of the project: - Contributes to meeting the NSW government's renewable energy targets. - Generated 350 local jobs during construction, boosting the region's economy. - Will provide renewable energy to Microsoft's data centers in Australia through a 15-year PPA agreement. This new addition brings our portfolio in Australia to nearly 1 GW of total capacity, consolidating our position as a leader in renewable energy. This success follows other recent milestones, such as the financial close of projects like the large-scale battery system in Terang. Located in Galway and Limerick, these projects will collectively deliver an 18-megawatt peak (MWp) capacity—enough to power 4,100 homes with clean, renewable energy. These solar farms, awarded under the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS), mark a significant step towards Ireland’s decarbonisation goals. Construction begins in January, and commissioning is expected later in the year. With over €17 billion in investments from recently approved projects and 260,000 new jobs expected, Spain is positioning itself as a renewable energy powerhouse in Europe. ❕However, challenges such as grid bottlenecks and permitting delays remain. Yet, with robust policies and sustained momentum, Spain could serve as a model for other nations looking to expand their clean energy footprint. The first Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) tender has delivered 6.38 GW of renewable energy projects across the National Electricity Market (NEM), powering 3 million households and boosting Australia’s clean energy future. Solar leads the charge with 63% of the awarded projects, backed by 3.5 GWh of battery energy storage (BESS). NSW and Victoria secured the largest shares, with 3.7 GW and 1.6 GW respectively, while South Australia and Queensland also made notable contributions. The projects are more than energy wins—they include $14 billion in local investments, $60 million in job creation, and funding for community development and First Nations benefits. Developers like Elgin Energy, Lightsource bp, and Edify Energy are among the big winners, driving projects set to begin operations from 2026 to 2028. A coalition of leading UK businesses has urged Energy Secretary Ed Miliband to expedite reforms to the Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) scheme. BT Group, Coca-Cola Europe Pacific Partners, Google, and Unilever are among the signatories advocating for policies that would boost investments in renewable energy, improve energy security, and reduce costs.
