Today Infrastructure Net Zero was launched, why is it so important? 🤝 Because for the scale and pace of action that we need to achieve net zero, #collaboration around the shared #netzero ambition is key. Bringing government, industry and independent experts together will get us there faster. 🌏 Because 70% of Australia's #emissions are related to infrastructure assets - how they're built, operated, and used. 🚄 Because Australia has a LOT of infrastructure assets in the pipeline, and we need to ask: which ones do we actually need for a net zero future? Which ones are not compatible with this future? And how do we build, operate and maintain them in a way that is least emissions-intensive? There is a lot of work to be done, and this initiative has the right organisations around the table and leadership to achieve great things and make sure Australia's infrastructure assets service the net zero goal. Well done Nicole Lockwood and Ainsley Simpson for getting us there, as well as to all others involved. I'm proud to have contributed to this with my team at Climateworks Centre. Onwards and upwards! PS: A major breakdown on the XPT train service from Melbourne to Sydney sadly prevented me from attending the launch. This is the 3rd major incident in 3 trips to Sydney on the XPT trains. Isn't it about time that Australia gets a modern days train network? Every Aussie I know raves about the trains in Europe, Canada, Japan... is that a sign for where Australia needs to invest for a net zero future? cc. Ian Porter 🚄😉

PORTS AND HARBORS: Onboard #carboncapture adoption is barred by low port readiness, Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) reports In collaboration with Lloyd's Register (LR) and Arup, the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) has released a report that has identified low port readiness as a major hurdle bottlenecking the adoption of onboard carbon capture and storage (#OCCS) systems as a practicable #decarbonization solution. Prof. Lynn Loo, CEO of GCMD, said, “While pilots have successfully demonstrated numerous capture technologies on board ships, it is still uncertain how captured carbon on #merchantships can be safely offloaded, and what the rest of the value chain looks like. This study sheds light on these challenges and highlights recommendations to holistically address these concerns for parties interested in advancing OCCS/ LCO2 offloading concepts.” Nicholas Brown, CEO of LR, said, "The #maritime industry requires a comprehensive understanding of the safety and operational challenges posed by all #emission-reduction technologies. This study, which focused on port readiness and considerations for the safe handling and offloading of LCO2, addresses some of the gaps that exist in the #carboncapture value chain and will support industry stakeholders in making informed investment decisions around carbon capture solutions and the creation of regulatory and operational guidelines." Robert Cooke, design lead of Arup, said, “As a result of the study, it has been promising to see how transferable existing CO2 industrial knowledge is to an offloading application.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eu5j75hq #Marine #Maritime #Electrification #Decarbonization #Sustainability #Environment #Technology #Transportation #EHMExpo #EHMXNA
