“If we can send 175 billion dollars to Ukraine, we can do something to fix the healthcare problem in the United States.” We need to wake up and act as Americans. Healthcare isn’t broken—it’s extremely profitable for its shareholders. Just like the 401(k) industry back in 2006, it’s time we realign the incentives and give the American people a voice in this fight. Healthcare is eroding Americans’ income and retirement. There is a better way!

Deputy Managing Director - UK & Ireland at Instinctif Partners | Strategic communications | Reputation management | Award-winning campaigns | Neurodiversity
All eyes on Westminster today, where a once-maligned but passionate group of socially-minded people channel their rehabilitated reputation to push forward with de-risked propositions and innovative ideas to help fix broken Britain. Are the Equity Release Council and the #equityrelease sector it represents secretly the UK #financialservices equivalent of The Labour Party (2024 edition)? Regardless, whoever wins the next election would do well to note today's discussions at the Equity Release Summit if they're serious about improving living standards in #retirement. Looking forward to joining Jim Boyd, Kelly Melville-Kelly (the Starmer and Reeves of later life lending?), Lee Blackwell, Chris Fay, Laura Gibson, Sue Read, David Burrowes, Michelle Highman, Chris Pond and colleagues for a day of important debate with a cross-industry, intergenerational and cross-party significance, where Sarah Christie of Truth Consulting will be addressing the challenge of educating consumers on modern lifetime and later life lending. #Older voters loom large in elections this year in the U.S., U.K. and France. Not only do they turn out to #vote more #reliably than the #young, but they also account for a growing share of the #electorate. As a result, leading #political parties in many countries are pledging to protect retirees’ income and #health coverage, at a time when growing numbers of retirees will #strain government #finances. Older voters often are more #concerned than younger ones about #crime and #immigration, and less likely to support #environmental initiatives.

What's the mood of UK #startup ecosystem in the aftermath of the #UK Labour Party’s landslide election victory? Broadly optimistic. Kai Nicol-Schwarz of Sifted has spoken to dozens of tech folk in the hours after the results came in last week. 2 themes came up time and again: (a) funding and (b) access to overseas talent. (a) The outgoing Conservative Party got the ball rolling on one of those things. Its proposed Mansion House reforms — which would unlock tens of billions of pension fund capital for startups — is seen as a promising step toward filling a (disputed) growth-stage funding gap. Many founders and VCs said that pushing through those reforms should be a priority for the new government. At the earlier stage there’s also broad support for the government to continue investment schemes like the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) and the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) tax incentive programmes — which are designed to give tax breaks to investors who back new companies. One VC described them as the “blast furnaces of the startup economy”. (b) The Conservatives didn’t do so well on access to overseas talent. It implemented a series of reforms in the past year designed to curb net migration to the country — which has seen a 25% drop in visa applications. #innovation #elections Mind the Bridge

lun. 15 juill. à 19 h 01 1/2 Press release Deputy Prime Minister kickstarts new devolution revolution to boost local power Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner will pledge to kickstart a new devolution revolution to transfer more powers out of Westminster. From: Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and The Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP Published 16 July 2024 Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner will today (16 July 2024) pledge to kickstart a new devolution revolution to transfer more powers out of Westminster and into the hands of local people. In her first letter to local leaders, Rayner will urge regions without devolved power to “partner with the government to deliver the most ambitious programme of devolution this country has ever seen”. She will invite local leaders in devolution deserts - those with local knowledge and skin in the game - to work together to take on powers in areas like transport, adult education and skills, housing and planning, and employment support. These new agreements will mean local leaders can make decisions that benefit their communities better, while boosting economic growth and opportunity. Devolution is central to the government’s mission to boost economic growth, but only around half of the people in England currently benefit from these arrangements. The letter from the Deputy Prime Minister makes clear that the government’s door is open to areas who want to take on devolution for the first time, with the government committed to encouraging more local authorities to come together and take on new powers. In the letter, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner said: For too long, Westminster government has tightly gripped control and held back opportunities and potential for towns, cities, and villages across the country. Last week, with the Prime Minister, I had the pleasure of meeting the metro Mayors in England. We discussed how to have a proper, grown up conversations around economic growth, and how to deliver that through better housing, skills, and jobs for local people. I want to work with more places to help them use these enhanced powers and role - because I want to drive growth in every part of the country. For any area considering it, now is the time to take the plunge and speak to us about how we can work with you to transform your regions. Greater Manchester, one of the places where devolution has existed for the longest and powers are deepest, has been one of the UK’s fastest growing areas over the last 20 years and is forecast to grow by more than the national average in coming years.
