It is World Duchenne Awareness Day today, a global day aiming to raise awareness for those affected by Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy. The theme for this year's awareness day is 'breaking barriers'. This is a campaign that is close to our hearts, as one of the first pieces of bathroom equipment we designed and built - the ABW height adjustable washbasin - was developed with Muscular Dystrophy UK in the 1990s to address the specific needs of people living with degenerative and changing muscular conditions such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Many of the washbasin's features - such as weight bearing basin surround, levered taps and handset controls - were incorporated to support changing needs and enable as much independent washing as possible, for as long as possible. This design has been further developed over the years, and was also used as the basis for our ABW-CP Washbasin, which is used in Changing Places Toilets across the UK. We are proud to support those with Muscular Dystrophy, and this campaign. #WorldDuchenneAwarenessDay #DuchenneAwarenessDay #BreakingBarriers #ChangingPlaces #ChangingPlacesToilets Duchenne UK

It’s World Duchenne Awareness Day! This year’s theme is breaking down barriers in DMD. There are several ways that barriers are starting to be broken down for DMD, from accessing care to education. But barriers still need to be broken down there further, and there are some places where the barriers are still very much up. That's just not good enough and needs to change. Help us highlight this key issue for the DMD community today. Share your experience, the good and the bad, of either how you have faced or broken down DMD barriers this World Duchenne Awareness Day - with the hashtags #DMDBreakingBarriers #WDAD2023. Thank you, and together our community will break down these barriers!
