What a fascinating article! While a lot of the ideas here may seem like they are decades away, there are tangible benefits that some firms may try to experiment with already. This is especially true if they already have strategic partnerships in aerospace or other similar engineering fields. #Innovation #Manufacturing #Space

Our CEO Bianca Cefalo speaks to Forbes about Space DOTS® mission and some of her first lessons learned as a founder. Here Bianca shares: 🛞 the painful childhood lesson she learned from my dad's failed business and how it helped her part ways amicably with an original third co-founder. 🤝 Our strategic partnership with Thales Alenia Space that will provide transparency into how much Space companies are really spending on advanced materials testing and qualification, and how Space DOTS can help reduce that burden. ❤️ The hiring mistake we almost made last year and how important it is to trust your gut in a competitive talent market. #space #spacetechnology #spaceindustry #newspace #newspaceeconomy #womenintech #womeninspace #femalefounders #forbes https://lnkd.in/gskE58iX

That a supernova? Nope, just space companies blowing up The cosmic dreams of many space startups that went public during the pandemic have crash-landed back on Earth. Investors were sold on them becoming the next SpaceX, which continues to dominate the launch market with a space monopoly — having launched 92 successful rockets this year. While SpaceX reaches for Mars, some competitors are grounded with severance packages. Rocket Lab (NASDAQ:RKLB) remained the most promising of entrants with eight successful missions this year — but a failed mission in September has set the company back. Space tourism company Virgin Galactic (NYSE:SPCE) is laying off 18% of its workforce and announcing a flight hiatus as of mid-2024 to redirect focus towards a new and more profitable spacecraft. Space is hard: Tell em, Naird. Yesterday, the founders of Astra Space (NASDAQ:ASTR), which is down 80% this year, offered investors $30M to take the company private — a stark contrast to their IPO valuation of $2.6B just two years ago. Despite launching only two successful missions in its history, Astra Space remains optimistic about 2024 and 2025… as long as it can survive the journey. https://lnkd.in/gSNZBT7U

"$0.50 per share in cash. On March 6, 2024, the closing price of Astra’s Class A common stock was $0.86 per share" Disappointing especially for those of us that bought in at IPO. I bought in at ~$10, with the 15:1 reverse split that's a 99.7% loss for myself and all the other public investors. I still believe in the mission Astra looked to accomplish, I wish the company well on it's endeavors. I personally would rather the remaining assets be sent to investors, I would much rather receive a copy of internal test reports and other company IP rather than fractions of a penny on the dollar.
