As you may know, we are a consultancy that looks at sustainability in all three of its key components: environmental; economic; social. Today, our lead consultant is at the Big Sustainability Expo at the Hilton Southampton (at the Utilita Bowl). Many of the hundreds of visitors will be focused on environmental improvements and cost savings. However, with this news just landed thanks to the great team at NordSIP, it would appear that the social sustainability we want to see is still a way off. Homelessness is a social scourge. We support Centrepoint annually, bidding to end youth homelessness in the UK. So when you next wonder how you can have an impact on sustainability, perhaps consider a little wider than the "green". SDG progress by target 🌎 The 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report provides a clear assessment of the current global progress, and the findings are stark. Only 17% of the assessed targets are on track to be achieved by 2030, signaling a significant deviation from the intended path of the 2030 Agenda. Of the 135 targets evaluated, nearly half show moderate to severe deviations from the desired trajectory, indicating that many of the key objectives remain far from realization. Marginal progress has been recorded in 30% of the targets, further emphasizing the gap between ambition and action. Stagnation has been observed in 18% of the targets, while 17% have regressed below 2015 levels. This regression is particularly concerning, as it reflects a reversal of progress in critical areas, making the achievement of the SDGs even more difficult. The scale of the challenge is evident. The majority of the targets are not on track to be met by 2030, with a combination of slow progress, stagnation, and regression painting a bleak picture for the overall trajectory of the SDGs. Without immediate and focused action, the current trends suggest that many goals will remain unfulfilled. The data highlights the need for more decisive and impactful measures to correct the course and meet the targets. The report underscores the urgency for intensified efforts across all sectors. The world is far off track, and reversing these trends will require significant, coordinated action to bring the SDGs back within reach.
