New results from LSU as part of the Fermilab SQMS center. -- High-Q superconducting resonators have been proposed and developed as detectors of light-by-light scattering mediated by the hypothesized axion and virtual electron-positron pairs in quantum electrodynamics. Photon frequency and mode conversion is central to the scheme for detecting such rare events. We consider photon frequency and mode conversion in superconducting resonators with high quality factors from Meissner currents in single and dual cavity setups proposed for axion and QED searches based on light-by-light scattering. Ionisation chambers vs Solid-state detectors * Ionisation detectors are gas filled radiation detectors. It works on the principle that- as the radiation pass through air or specific gas, ionisation occurs. i. e. ionise gas within the chamber when exposed to radiation, generating an electric current proportional to the radiation. * less sensitive , ideal for high radiation levels * slower response time, not suitable for real-time measurements * accurate at high doses, used for measuring high radiation levels * applications : environmental monitoring, radiation therapy dosimetry etc Solid state detectors are also called semiconductor detectors, where a semiconductor material such as a silicon or germanium crystal constitutes the detecting medium. In the detecting medium electron- hole pairs are produced when a particle of ionizing radiation pass through it. As a result, a pulse of current generated, is measured. i. e. using semiconductor materials to generate electron-hole pairs when exposed to radiation, producing a proportional electric signal * highly sensitive, ideal for detecting low radiation levels. * fast response time, allows real -time monitoring and adjustments during therapy.
