Students at ASU hosted a captivating storytelling event on gun culture. Through their “Guns, Art-making, and Truth” Humanities Lab course, they explored the impact of gun violence on the community. This intergenerational event was hosted at Mirabella at ASU. The event was part of a partnership with the National Humanities Center’s US-based Being Human Festival. Students acted as “fourth responders,” expressing the impact of gun violence through art and dialogue for healing. This first-of-its-kind center brings social science approaches to the gun debate to forge an inclusive, post-partisan forum for people across the political spectrum to engage, learn and elevate. How do you help students feel like they belong at school? By giving them a safe space to build connections and share emotional check-ins with peers. Here's how our three middle schools — Barr, Walnut, Westridge — came together to implement "Middle School Advisory Time". A collaborative, daily effort to help middle school students feel seen, heard, and empowered. Watch our short documentary on the power of a unified approach to "Bulldog Time", "Cougar Time", & "Wildcat Time". READ & WATCH: https://trst.in/qk56yt -- #WeAreGIPS

This week Chris Yadon, MPA, Managing Director of Saprea sat down with KUTV to discuss the impact of A.I. and how it relates to the issue of child sexual abuse. Chris discussed how this technology is being used to extort money and other things from children. As technology continues to rapidly change and sextortion becomes an increasingly concerning issue, Saprea offers prevention resources for parents to help navigate these conversations. Read Saprea’s blog on Understanding Sextortion and the Threat. https://lnkd.in/gJx8fBup
Imagine being a thirteen-year-old girl, just starting eighth grade, excited about the new school year. On a Saturday morning, your phone buzzes with a message from an unknown person. You open it, only to read a terrifying threat: “I have a nude picture of you. If you don’t send more nude pics, I’ll share it with everyone at school.” You’re confused. You’ve never taken such a picture. It must be a cruel joke, you think—until another message arrives with an altered version of a photo you posted the night before. In it, you were fully clothed, but now something is horribly wrong—you're naked. Panic sets in. How could this happen? You’re overwhelmed with fear, not knowing where to turn for help. This isn’t fiction—children are being sexually exploited through AI-powered undressing or nudify apps every day. I am very grateful to KUTV 2News / KMYU for giving me time to talk to parents about what we can do.

Ever wondered why we’re seeing what we’re seeing with encampments on university’s property, hate filled protests on city streets, random attacks on innocent people, etc Well here is where it starts, your kids school Indoctrinating our younger generation by presenting a biased, one sided point of view. If this is happen at a Catholic school, can you imagine what’s happening inside a publicly funded school system? What’s happening inside college and university classrooms? Get involved in your kids schooling, see what they are learning, what are they getting involved and speak up https://lnkd.in/g8yajRVe

Almost six years to this day, I was marching with students all across the United States for common-sense gun control to combat the senseless violence that we still face in schools. Throughout my undergraduate career, I continued to remain a steadfast supporter of student involvement in politics and in social advocacy through Students Demand Action, Young Democrats, and the Black Student Association. I researched racial bias in digital spaces and the proliferation of digital minstrelsy and digital blackface through text, audio, and video content. And most critically, never shied away from having the tough conversations that we all need to have when it comes to discussing race. Now, I am so excited and overwhelmed to continue that work of pushing democracy forwards through my graduate capstone, with the help of Ivana Albernas, Soorya Narayan Satheesh, Donte Arrivas, and May Simpson. (With special thanks to our advisor Michael Rivera, PhD). Solving democracy is a tall order, and we have big ideas, but we've found that the best way to start is by thinking small. After almost 15 user interviews and extensive market research, we've identified a critical knowledge gap between college students and their local communities. Even those who have spent close to decade in their "college towns" feel transient and disconnected to the politics going on around them, and often lack the time and the resources to perform meaningful engagement. Our project aims to bridge this gap by providing these students with the information they want and need in an explainable and accessible manner, and to, most importantly, get them out and interacting with their communities in impactful ways. As we enter the design phase of this project, there is so much more to come, but I think we're off to a great start! ✨🇺🇸 #democracy #uxresearch #capstone #productdesign
