Creating content & experiences that educate, entertain & inspire action since ‘07 | Building intentional company culture is my jam | Providing an oasis🏝 in your feed | Views are mine & do not reflect that of my employer
#eventprofs quick question: Does the size of the events someone has worked on in the past matter? Every event professional I know working on “small events” (let’s say under 500 people) are typically generalists. Meaning they touch EVERY aspect of the event -> content, food, marketing, registration, etc. Whereas large scale events (let’s say 1000+) require teams…usually comprised of specialists. So if you’re overseeing registration, you’re not also managing speakers and content. In my opinion, neither is good or bad. Just different experiences. But I truly believe, if you’re a good project manager, who can keep calm under pressure, adapt to different audiences’ needs, and manage stakeholders - you’ll be a good event professional at any scale event size. Can we get back to focusing on education, skill sets and competence over narrowly specific experience requirements in job postings?

Every event needs some sort of planning. How you decide to plan yours is up to you, but hiring an Event planner will definitely make the task much easier for you.

When boss treats us to lunch....with delicious traditional kuih!! But before that, how many of us actually know the names of our kuih muih? - That is why Sri Talamaz's tagline is "Preserving our rich traditions for generations to come." Can you recognise the kuih? How many did you get it right? Let's cuba try test! P.S I know Sri Talamaz a few years back when I was a video storyteller for GRAB Malaysia. They caught my attention because they offered free kueh to Grab riders even though they themselves were suffering during the pandemic with no sales (they are a family-owned business with a big heart lah 💕). ▶ If you are in the hotel industry, hospital, convention centre, event halls, caterers etc. do consider them! Or even for a small office party like this! ⏩ Do you believe an occasional office lunch together can boost team morale and productivity?

Helping experienced EA’s progress to higher level roles & increase their income 💸 l Career Coach for Executive Assistants | 1:1 & Group Programs l International Speaker
The problem with the learning and development industry… 😲 Its leads you to believe that you ‘need’ a qualification when you actually just need experience in a given area/s and to learn how to position and communicate yourself as the ideal fit for that higher level role🤯 If you really want to complete a qualification, great, but I'd highly reccomend doing it from a place of passion, interest and also with the ability to implement the theory learnt in real time, so you gain experience and skills immediately. In order to leave the river bank (your current role) and cross the river to reach an island (your new higher level role) you need a bridge (experience, skills, communicate to others etc)🏝️ Unfortunately a portion of L&D options will teach you knowledge of how to run the island, but not give your experience OR how to get there. Ya get me? Build a bridge and this will help you cross a lot quicker 🌉 Here is how YOU can start to build your bridge.. ✅ Focus on showing and TELLING others how your skills and experience would be an ideal SOLUTION to the problem they have. For example: You are an EA who wants to move into an Event Manager role. You need to TELL others that your wealth of experience managing a wide variety of events and people in your EA role and the impactful results those events have delivered to the business, make you a strong candidate for a promotion to an Event Manager role. If I can do it, so can you 💫 🚀If you’re ready to take action with your career progression and want guidance and support with building your 'career bridge', send me a private message or comment below with the word ’BRIDGE’ to explore if we might be a fit to work together.

Why do I love my job as an event coordinator? The field is fascinating to work in. Because each event is unique, it is never dull. This job is not a 9–5 one. You can be flexible with the timing. In order to manage the events, you get to visit various locations, venues, etc. You get to interact with and observe the stars. If you are successful, there is money. You can apply your creative thinking.

Founder and CEO of Tempo Live Events, Inc. The Industry leader in freelance event production resourcing. Side Hustle: Freelance Event Producer, Stage Manager and Deck Manager. Wife. Mom. Lions Fan!
I recently supported a new client by filling their need for a Deck Manager the day before the show started! “I just wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for not only helping us out last minute but for sending someone who far exceeded my expectations, especially given the limited notice! Kelly was an absolute pleasure to work with, he jumped right in as if he’d been part of the team from the start. Can’t wait to be able to work with him and your team again, thanks a million!” This gives me a chance to spotlight the fantastic, supportive role that a Deck Manager (Backstage Manager or ASM) plays in events! I know we often think of this role as someone backstage helping push presenters out on cue; but the support a Deck Manager provides to presenters is so much more valuable to the client/presenter experience! Deck Managers bring value: ✅ Provide emotional support: the last person the presenter sees before going on stage and the first person welcoming them back off stage! ✅ Prioritize client relations: they support the needs of your clients from rehearsal to performance, making sure their experience is positive and memorable. ✅ Partnership between departments: the role you can count on to watch for unprecedented challenges and the safety guard behind stakeholder management! This is an absolutely crucial role for event agencies looking to impress their clients and leave them feeling cared for. I could not recommend getting a Deck Manager for your next event MORE! Let me know if you want a highly skilled freelancer to Deck Manager your next show: https://bit.ly/3K4M1Wh #EventProduction #DeckManagement #EventSuccess #ClientRelations #EventPlanning #EventManagement #ProfessionalEvents #EventContractor
