This month, we ask you to stand on the right side of history ✊🏼 Many refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia have been failed by an unjust system, leaving them in limbo for over a decade with devastating consequences. Forced to leave their homelands for safety, they find themselves in our community without rights: to work, to access Medicare, or access to income support. This shameful chapter has to end for refugees and people seeking asylum to live with dignity and safety. Help us hold the government accountable by powering our advocacy work. As politicians return to Parliament this week, we’re looking at ways that our asylum system could work better for everyone. Here are messages from some of the experts who know best. ⚠️Refugee children are still being placed at risk in adult accommodation. 🛟Too many refugees have no safe way to apply to reach the UK. 💔Refugee families too often remain separated, because of our broken family reunion system. ❗We need safe routes, and a fair and humane asylum system. 📢Join us in asking the Government for simple changes that will save lives. #TogetherWithRefugees #saferoutesnow #FamiliesTogether #refugeeswelcome #UKpolitics

Today marks #WorldRefugeeDay! Many of the refugees, people seeking asylum and migrants we support every day struggle to meet basic living standards, face destitution and homelessness. Our society responds to immediate need, but we also understand the importance of challenging policies and systems at the root causes of poverty and discrimination. This is why advocacy and influencing policy makers is a key part of our work. Learn more. https://lnkd.in/gPh6iRJr

Our latest report offers valuable insights into the challenges faced by refugees after the asylum process. The study reveals a concerning 223% increase in homelessness among those leaving asylum housing from June to September 2023, prompting questions about the link between the UK's asylum system and the rising tide of homelessness. This evidence-driven exploration sheds light on systemic issues that demand our attention. Curious to learn more? Download the report: https://lnkd.in/dTZDr2Jq

🌍 In Poland, a concerning trend emerges as a third of respondents report over five cases of homelessness among #refugees, affecting specific groups such as non-Ukrainian refugees and those of Roma origin. Urgent action is needed to address this issue. 🏠 In Spain, #ΑsylumSeekers face hurdles, waiting for months to register applications, leading to homelessness for some. Shockingly, 7 out of 10 real estate agencies admit to discriminatory practices against asylum seekers. We must advocate for a more inclusive and equitable society. #EndHomelessness #RefugeeRights #EqualityNow

In light of the recent attacks on refugee and asylum-seeking families and children in the UK, we must reaffirm our commitment to an inclusive and diverse society that upholds human rights for all. Seeking asylum is a human right. Children and families affected by climate, crisis and conflict have the right to seek safety in the UK. As professionals and citizens, we have a collective responsibility to stand in solidarity with vulnerable populations, actively combat misinformation and dispel myths about displaced people, share accurate information to foster understanding and empathy and be vocal allies in our workplaces and communities. Diversity strengthens our society and economy. By supporting refugees and asylum-seekers, we not only fulfil our moral obligations but also enrich our culture and workforce. Together, we can build a more inclusive UK that values and protects all its residents, regardless of their origin. #UKRiots #StandWithRefugees #InclusiveWorkplaces

The new Migration and Asylum Pact has been adopted but the system is still broken. My concerns still remain regarding the coming impact on families and children due to, among others, the fast-track processes, the detention under the Screening Regulation, and the barriers to access safety and services which will aggravate instances of violence, abuse, and trafficking. Solidarity provisions for search and rescue operations and prevention of deaths at the Mediterranean, among other issues, were not looked at and policies - throughout the implementation era - need to be grounded in childen's needs and invest in safeguards, procedures and capacities that address the vulnerabilities and leverage the potential of all migrants. Migration and asylum policies fail when they are blind to children’s needs and do not invest in capacities that address their vulnerabilities and leverage their potential. We should all push for a fair and humane migration and asylum system that respects children, international humanitarian and human rights law, by enhancing provisions of the Pact; let's get it right. #migrant #children #humanrights #Mediterranean

#MedEx would provide TennCare healthcare coverage, including family planning services, to thousands of low-income individuals of childbearing age, predominantly assisting citizens but also making some immigrant and refugee community members eligible.
