In today's Teachers Only Live-Stream with @CathleenElise, we're talking about 3 main areas involved in the global focus of hiring only native-English-speaking English teachers, as well as constructive ways we can turn this obsession around so that all teachers of English are hired for no other reason than their skill and qualifications. Well, we'll spend 30 minutes or so walking through the ins-and-outs of these issues and obstacles (and some ways to address them productively) while also helping you to create a plan that works for you in your life as it is right now. By the time you leave, you'll be able to start working on taking the necessary steps to create solutions in your life right now. We'll also talk about two great resources I have come across that focus specifically on bringing about positive change in the world of teaching English as a foreign or second language. Join me today (and every Thursday) at 1:00 pm Eastern Time, LIVE. The link is in the comments.

🎭 Fun Fact Thursday: English Teachers - The Accidental Therapists! 🧠 Did you know? As an English teacher, I often find myself wearing the hat of an unofficial therapist! 🤓💬 It's true! Whether it's helping students express their deepest thoughts in essays, guiding them through the emotions of complex literature, or simply being a listening ear during language practice, we English teachers frequently step into the role of emotional support. This unexpected aspect of our job is both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It reminds us that language isn't just about grammar and vocabulary - it's a powerful tool for self-expression, understanding, and healing. 🌟 To my fellow teachers: Embrace this unique part of our profession. Your impact goes far beyond language skills! 🙌 To students: Remember, your English class is more than just a place to learn a language. It's a safe space to grow, express yourself, and be heard. 🗣️❤️ What's your experience? Teachers, have you found yourself in this therapist role? 🍀I'm not saying to skip celebrations or neglect teaching culture, history, traditions, and fun facts. 🍀On the contrary! 🍀I believe incorporating these aspects should be a significant part of English language classes. 🍀However, many teachers stress about every celebration, every special day, and every holiday. They struggle to make their lessons unique, create excitement in the classroom, and ensure that students, regardless of age, learn something beyond the textbooks. 🍀Not every lesson has to be extraordinary. 🍀Developing numerous themed lessons monthly requires time, money, and can be mentally draining. 🍀Enhance your English lessons by playing some (classroom-friendly) Irish songs, showing engaging cultural videos, and organising themed games – it only takes a few minutes to plan and can still bring liveliness to your classes! 🍀🍀🍀 IG: https://lnkd.in/dFZZfBAz #esl #efl #tesol #teachingenglish #englishteachers #teachersofenglish #englishlanguage #ırıshculture #ireland #stpatrick #stpatricksday #stpatrickday #saintpatrickday #saintpatricksday #irish #irishsongs #englishlessons #englishtips #teacherstips

THE ORANGE MOUSE (Lite) - entertaining, practical assistance for students taking the English language in primary school. Primary school English teachers use The Orange Mouse (Lite) as an in-class exercise to stress a grammar point, give students English language practice; or, as light, fun English language homework. The exercises in TOM (Lite) also build critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills. An ideal supplementary English exercise book for building confidence and understanding of the English language.

You know you're a great teacher. You teach English and you love it. But how are you supposed to get anywhere if English is not your native language? This week, we're talking about the controversy surrounding native-English-speaking English teachers (NESTs) and non-native-English-speaking English teachers (NNESTs). With so many people out there adding their opinions into the mix and convoluting the fundamental issue, how do you know what the actual problem is, where you fit into it all, and what you can do about it while the issue is being sorted out? Well, spend 30 to 60 minutes going over the basic arguments and how the issue is being pulled off track. I'll give you examples from my own language learning and teaching experiences as well as those of my students. We'll also talk about: 1) How to put this issue into perspective by looking at it outside of the specific relm of the English language, 2) What happens when you lose sight of the core issue, and 3) How to raise yourself above the controversy by taking this one, simple step. Comment below if and how you, as a teacher of English, have been effected by this issue, then join me live tomorrow at 1:00 pm Eastern Time. #eslteacher #nnestvsnest #teachingenglish
