💥#LIBNOR #Standard for Water Reuse in Irrigation on the agenda of the Cairo Water Week 2024 As part of the activities of the #Cairowaterweek, i was pleased to unveil in a dedicated event, organized by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the publication of the new #Lebanesestandard for water reuse in irrigation NL 819:2024. This achievement is the result of a year-long collaboration between LIBNOR- The Lebanese Standards Institution, #IWMI, and the Ministry of Energy and Water. Together, we were able to develop a science-based standard that is both #relevant and #applicable in the Lebanese context, ensuring the #safety and #efficiency of our water resources following an inclusive and #consensus based process. A significant milestone in our journey towards #sustainableagriculture and water use in Lebanon. Proud of this collaborative effort and excited about the positive impact it will have on our #environment and #communities. A beautiful way to celebrate #Worldstandardsday2024. Thank you to our dedicated committee members and to the amazing #LIBNOR team. I've been hesitant to share anything on LinkedIn that would be appropriate for this platform given what's happening in Lebanon. And then I receive the attached picture. Our days are spent trying our best to see if we can help those colleagues and students impacted by the war, getting creative about fulfilling our mission "to educate and to serve, to heal and to empower", supporting each other, and waiting to see what the next day will bring. We remain significantly disillusioned by a world that doesn't care, but faithful, steadfast, confident, and tired. (Apologies. Today is #WorldHeartDay! “Love is unconditionally a social determinant of #health!”, as Dr. Scott said in one of his articles. CLOSLER I will add that #stress is unconditionally a high risk factor for heart diseases…and we have enough in #Lebanon for generations to come. Our next epidemic in 🇱🇧: 1- Mental illness 2- Cardiovascular diseases ‼️Quick reminder about the importance of a healthy #lifestyle to prevent coronary artery diseases which remain globally the first cause of premature death. 1- NO SMOKING: this includes all kind of smoking (cigarettes, narguilés, cigares, etc.), heat-not-burn products, e-cigarettes (unless used as a tool to quit smoking for a short period of time). Smoking includes tobacco and/or marijuana or other drugs. 2- Exercise: at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise 3- Healthy diet: cut off fried and processed foods, sugar and sweetened beverages. Mediterranean diet has proven to be good for your heart 4- Optimal body weight 5- Annual check-up: visit your doctor at least once per year. He will look for diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia (high LDL known as bad cholesterol and/or low HDL known as good or protective cholesterol) 6- Stress free: mindful meditation (and other types of meditation) is a good way to decrease the hormonal, physiological and psychological response to stress and their subsequent negative impacts on heart and brain 🧠. And don’t ignore symptoms like numbness and/or pain in your left thorax, shoulder and arm, upper stomach, in your upper back, around your neck and shortness of breath. المؤشرات البيئية: أدوات حاسمة لرصد وتقييم البيئة إليكم أهم 8 مؤشرات لتقييم الأداء البيئي: 1. مؤشر جودة الهواء Air Quality Index (AQI) - يقيس تركيز الملوثات مثل الجسيمات الدقيقة والأوزون و أكاسيد الكبريت وأكاسيد النيتروجين في الهواء. - يساعد في مراقبة مستويات تلوث الهواء وتأثيرها على صحة الإنسان والبيئة. 2. مؤشر جودة المياه Water Quality Index (WQI) - يقيم الخصائص الفيزيائية والكيميائية والبيولوجية لمصادر المياه. - يشير إلى مدى صلاحية المياه للاستخدامات المختلفة، مثل الشرب والزراعة والبيئة البحرية. 3. مؤشر انبعاثات غازات الاحتباس الحراري Annual Green House Gas Index (AGGI) - تتبع حجم ثاني أكسيد الكربون والميثان وأكسيد النيتروجين وغيرها من غازات الاحتباس الحراري التي تطلق في الغلاف الجوي. - تستخدم لمراقبة التقدم المحرز نحو تحقيق أهداف خفض الانبعاثات وجهود التخفيف من تغير المناخ. 4. مؤشر توليد النفايات ومؤشر إعادة التدوير Waste Generation Index (WGI) & Waste Recycling Index (WRI) - يقيسيان إجمالي كمية النفايات المنتجة والنسبة المئوية التي يتم إعادة تدويرها أو تسميدها أو إعادة استخدامها بدلاً من إرسالها إلى المكبات. - يساعد في تقييم فعالية إدارة النفايات ومبادرات الاقتصاد الدائري. 5. مؤشر التنوع البيولوجي The Biodiversity Index - يقيم تنوع وكثافة الأنواع النباتية والحيوانية المختلفة في النظام البيئي. - يشير إلى صحة وقدرة التحمل الطبيعية للموائل وخطر انقراض الأنواع. 6. مؤشر كفاءة الطاقة Energy Effeciancy Index (EEI) - تتبع استهلاك الطاقة لكل وحدة من المخرجات أو الأنشطة (مثل الطاقة المستخدمة لكل مبنى أو منتج أو ميل مقطوع). - تساعد في مراقبة التقدم المحرز نحو تحسين كفاءة الطاقة والحد من الآثار البيئية المتعلقة بالطاقة. 7. مؤشر استهلاك المياه Water Usage Index (WUI) - يقيس إجمالي حجم المياه المستخدمة لأغراض مختلفة، مثل الزراعة والصناعة والاستخدام المنزلي. - يساعد في تحديد فرص توفير المياه وإدارة الموارد بكفاءة. 8. مؤشر استخدام الأراضي والتغيرات في الغطاء النباتي Vegetation Index (VI) and Land Use Index (LUI) - يراقب تحويل المناظر الطبيعية (مثل الغابات والأراضي الرطبة) إلى استخدامات أراضي مصنوعة من الإنسان (مثل الزراعة والتنمية الحضرية). - يوفر رؤى حول تأثير الأنشطة البشرية على النظم البيئية والتنوع البيولوجي. الخلاصة: يتم استخدام هذه المؤشرات البيئية الرئيسية على نطاق واسع من قبل الحكومات والشركات والمنظمات الدولية لتقييم الأداء البيئي، وتدعم هذه المؤشرات بشكل كبير عملية صنع القرار، ومتابعة التقدم المحرز نحو تحقيق أهداف التنمية الاستدامة.
