In "History of Policing: Policing, Capitalism, and Class," I look into the historical evolution of policing and its intricate ties with capitalist structures and class dynamics. The lecture examines how policing has been utilized as a tool to maintain social order, often reinforcing the interests of the ruling class. I discuss the origins of modern policing in the context of industrialization, highlighting how economic changes necessitated new forms of social control. The talk also touches upon the disproportionate impact of policing on marginalized communities, illustrating the systemic biases ingrained in law enforcement practices. What we’re witnessing isn't just the harm done to individuals—it’s a wound that slows the progress of our entire nation. To change that, I have a proposal for the creation of a film institute rooted in inclusivity and transformation. This institute will specifically reach out to those who’ve been overlooked and underserved: incarcerated individuals, single-parent families, first-generation college students, and more. Through this space, we’ll provide more than just technical skills in filmmaking—we’ll offer mentorship, guidance, and a direct path to real opportunities in the industry. By equipping them with practical tools and a creative outlet, we can help them find their voice, reintegrate, and thrive. Ultimately, investing in their future means investing in our shared future, tackling the systemic inequalities that feed cycles of incarceration and injustice. https://lnkd.in/ghP5hmQH

Research, plan, and administrate a ministry program that provides learning experiences to help those who are justice-involved encounter the person of God, the truths of His Word, the power of His Holy Spirit, and transform their thinking and behavior while developing basic life skills.
