Another glowing review for Existenz! With a intriguing foundation, Existenz effectively utilizes the talk show format to provoke questions about reality and fame, adding a satirical touch through strong performances and solid direction. - Rebecca, Film Carnage #existenz #shortfilm #filmfestivals #chaosgoesprimetime #experimental

The last few weeks I've had a few people tell me how much they have enjoyed my first short film Cashpoint. I made that film in 2018 with barely any money, pulled in a ton of favours but I can't watch it anymore because I see all it's flaws. That was a passion project, I put no pressure on myself to write it, just made it because I wanted to prove to myself that I could make a film. The people around me told me to submit to festivals, so I did. I remember getting rejected by a lot of film festivals and one online platform (I won't name names) gave me feedback that read ....'it feels like a lot of buildup to what is essentially a pretty basic reveal' and 'just being let down by a somewhat unsatisfying payoff' and 'we wish the film went a bit further and felt more emotionally resonate' They way this knocked my ability was unreal, honestly I thought I made a CRAP film. My love for it died that day. Even know when people tell me they liked I'd be like 'Are you sure?' lol What really interesting to me is that I've worked on a few things since then and that feedback has never left me. It's actually put a pressure on me that whatever I come up with needs to be even better. I need to be even better, my ideas need to be even better. I even submitted my 2nd film to that same platform because I made sure it emotionally resonated like they said but they still rejected me. Whatevs lol But people keep telling me how much they really enjoyed it. Which brings me to my point, feedback is subjective to one individual or group of peoples opinion. It doesn't define your ability as a whole. Some people will love what you do and some won't. That's okay. I've finally begun to be able to shake that feedback off now and confidently work on things without worrying if its 'basic', 'unsatisfying' or a 'let down'. If I love it then that's all that matters. https://lnkd.in/dqFRmH5C

In a world (and on a platform) rife with AI rants and occupational pissing matches, comes a short but mighty (hilarious) film that explores the true danger of artificial intelligence & competitiveness: emotional exhaustion, android adultery and heartbreak.
Thanks to friends and colleagues, friendly colleagues, and colleagues who are also friends, for helping to make this li'l gem of a short film happen. WORKINGSTIFF FILMS Stacy Gallo Jeff Collins

I've been getting some very interesting reactions to this film 😍 I had nothing to do with writing the script (it was written and directed by Nakiah Varcianna; I have an EP credit) and I had no creative input to what you see on screen, yet people are still perceiving me within the film. Whether it's the look Rita gives Mike when he comes up with excuses about why he can't follow his dreams, or my voice in their head when they are wondering whether to take that risk (sometimes years after we had a conversation): somehow this film reminds people of me - and jolts them into action. This has left me reflecting on several things: 1) Why we are attracted to the projects we choose take on and take into our hearts - whether as filmmakers or audience 2) How we often don't realise - or recognise - the profound ways in which we we can subconsciously impact people, and how that impact can last a lifetime 3) How the films we make - even when primarily intended as entertainment - can be the catalyst in someone else's growth and has the potential to change their life. Bookyville is already punching above its weight, and it's a beautiful thing. P.S. Apologies to anyone who is haunted by my voice in their head: just walk towards your dream step by step and I promise my voice will recede 😅
