❓ Question of the week: Can only true do-gooders give to charity? With activists' pressure mounting, both Hay and the Edinburgh international book festivals have cut ties with their main sponsor, the investment firm Baillie Gifford. Activists were trying to pressure the investment firm to divest from fossil fuels rather than the festivals reneging their sponsorships. But this never happened (and would never have given the timeframes). This raises some interesting questions: How can charities use tainted money? And if too much of that tainted money is turned away, how many charities will go bust?
