We were in the field recently with Jessica Flores of Preservation Forward in Berrien Springs, MI. Check out the photo of the historical panel about the 1870 Berrien County jail. Designed by architect Gilbert B. Avery, the holding cells featured two floors - the second reserved for women and their children - and a center bathing unit with a skylight and ventilation. From the outside, the jail appeared to be a typical square building. Inside, the cells were arranged in a circular pattern. Avery was inspired by other prisons of the day designed for humane treatment. 📷: Tiffany Dziurman
San Quentin, once a "living hell," is transforming into a Nordic-inspired haven of hope. This $240M makeover replaces grim walls with lush gardens, modern classrooms, and spaces for connection—tripling educational opportunities and fostering rehabilitation. By 2026, it will stand as a model for peace, purpose, and breaking the cycle of crime, proving prisons can be places of transformation.

100% agree with this, way too many penal reform groups and prisoner charities are largely devoid of those with lived experience, or just have the token ex-offender or two for fundraising purposes.
Until you can serve a prison sentence by reading a book about it, then all penal reform groups and prisoner charities should have a Board where those with lived experience of custody are the majority on that Board, and not the token exception.
“No longer can prisons be our default social service because this model just doesn’t work for anyone, especially victims. This crisis must be a transformational tipping point, with bold and innovative solutions produced in partnership with all stakeholders, including people living and working in the system. The front line is where the wisdom lies, and lived experience must be at the heart of effective solutions.”
Our CEO Lucie Russell shares her experiences of visiting prisons, speaking to residents, and how their insights can be used to make the justice system work!

A Revival That Transforms Lives—and Businesses
The world’s largest online revival EVER is coming to America, and I’ll share the details soon. But the real revival is already happening—in me and in you—if you’ll let it.
Psalm 142 speaks to struggle, despair, and a cry for help. But it’s also a message of hope, deliverance, and connection with God.
“I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way.” —Psalm 142:1-3
This is my testimony; as follows
For my whole life, I endured abuse—physically, mentally, and sexually. At 10, I cried out to God, asking Him to allow me to be happy and fulfill His will. I didn’t know how He would answer, but I trusted He would. And through every step of my journey, I saw His hand guiding me.
I grew up in a broken home, struggled in school, and faced overwhelming obstacles. Yet, through God’s strength, I developed resilience. I overcame these challenges and achieved things I never thought possible.
One morning in Tennessee, I decided to dedicate my life to Jesus. I was baptized and became a new Christian. From that moment, I knew my struggles had purpose.
“I am like one who is in great need. Rescue me from those who pursue me… Set me free from my prison.” —Psalm 142:6-7
God has been with me every step, protecting and guiding me. He didn’t promise riches or success, but He led me to understand the power of humility, purity of heart, and faith. He showed me that true success is about being aligned with His will and living with goodness first.
When I allowed myself to be led by God’s Spirit and my heart was pure, doors opened that I couldn’t have imagined. But when I tried to do it on my own, life became a struggle.
This is a message for every business owner and entrepreneur: If you’re struggling or just starting out, success is not just about money—it’s about faith. With even a mustard seed of faith, God can pour into your life in ways that transform everything. He nurtures your business, your relationships, and your opportunities.
When you think all is lost, when doors seem to be closing, that’s when God’s favor pours in. He shows you that with a heart aligned with His will, everything starts to unfold.
“You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” —Psalm 142:5
God is not just a source of strength; He is the ultimate guide to your success. If you’re searching for a deeper purpose, beyond the fleeting rewards of success, I encourage you to reach out. God is ready to guide you to the life He has planned for you.

This week's episode of The Secret Life of Prisons is about violence on prison landings. It includes a jaw-dropping interview from my friend Duewaine, who was in and out of prison for three decades and was involved in his fair share of fights on the wing.
*Everyone* should listen to his description of day-to-day life behind bars.
We're also delighted to welcome Conroy Harris, Chief Executive of abandofbrothers who work to reduce the sort of violence Duewaine describes.
Please do listen, and share.
