The Plastic-Free Challenge. This is what my county is doing for the month of February and I just signed up! The content in this is suburb, and some of the actions are hard. For example, could I live without plastic wrap? I don't know! 😲 I do know laundry detergent sheets have been on my to-buy list. I just ordered a pack and I am hopeful as I'd love to get rid of those big, bulky detergent jugs. 🗑 Feel free to participate in this challenge with me. And give some thought on how we can instill a Plastic-Free Challenge within our workplaces. It's common to do a Wellness Challenge or a Volunteer Challenge at work. CSW Group are celebrating Earth Day today 🌍, a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and act for a healthier planet and brighter future. The first Earth Day was in America in 1970 and is said to have birthed the modern environmental movement. Since then, Earth Day has evolved to the largest civic event on earth, activating billions of people across 192 countries to safeguard our planet and fight for a brighter future. This year’s theme is Planet Vs Plastics, raising awareness of the health risks of plastics, demand a 60% reduction in all plastics by 2040 and to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health. We are encouraging our staff to get involved, and so can you by trying some of the following actions: ·-Support and use recycling programs in your community.  -Collect and recycle your soft plastics (bread bags etc) -Volunteer at beach cleans or other clean ups.  -Support and frequent green businesses. -Buy re-usable products versus disposable. -Repurpose items that have outworn their use. -Shop secondhand and charity shops for gently used items. -Avoid fast fashion. -Use energy-efficient appliances or dry your clothes outside (weather permitting!) -Walk or ride your bike to work if possible. -Carshare or make one trip instead of multiple trips for shopping. -Improve your knowledge with a quick Earth Day quiz: https://lnkd.in/ewPHvYw They can even earn points for their teams by logging their actions in our annual Green Games competition! 🌱🌵🌿🌲🌳🌴 It’s lovely to see so many staff getting involved, including this picture of one of our CSW reusable jute bags being used to collect washed up plastic from one of our local beaches! #EarthDay #Sustainability #PlanetVsPlastics

A little over 4.5 billion years old, weighing in at almost 6 billion trillion metric tons, and boasting over 70% water coverage on its surface… it's the EARTH! There are so many ways we can support the Earth and make a difference. This year challenge yourself to do one thing to better the Earth. Here are some ideas if you need a few: • Reduce your use of plastics. • Shop sustainable fashion. • Volunteer at a local cleanup project in your community. • Use your voting power to protect our environment. • Plant a tree. • Educate yourself on the importance and value of our natural resources. • Use reusable shopping bags. • Choose non-toxic cleaning chemicals. • Use less water. Celebrate the Earth today by showing it some attention and love!

#PlasticFreeJuly is such an important time of year for organisations like ours. Year after year, we've committed our efforts to removing (primarily) plastic litter from our environment all over the Great Lakes Region. We've had countless conversations with our volunteers about the consequences of plastic pollution on the great lakes, wildlife, and humans. We've celebrated huge milestones, like collecting and recycling 1 Million cigarette butts. But the reality, is that there's always more to do and learn.
