Active Care in care homes with Active Families North East The benefits of physical activity outweighs any risks. ( Watch the video below) There is a lot of research about the wide range of health and wellbeing benefits from physical activity for older people. Research also tells us that there is a steady decline in activity with increasing age and frailty. Often, older people just need the opportunity or the support to be more active and to engage in activities on a daily basis. We're a part of Active Travel England's, Active Travel Social Prescibing Pilot in a several areas across the UK including Bath and North East Somerset. 👟 Active travel social prescribing involves recommending or prescribing physical activities such as walking or cycling as a means of transportation to improve health and well-being. It's instead of relying solely on traditional modes of transportation like cars or public transport, individuals are encouraged to incorporate active travel daily routines. This approach promotes physical activity, reduces carbon emissions, and can lead to various health benefits such as improved cardiovascular health, weight management, and mental well-being. It's a holistic approach that integrates physical activity into everyday life, enhancing both personal health and environmental sustainability. 🌿 Green social prescribing involves the recommendation or referral of individuals to engage with nature-based activities or environments to improve their physical, mental, and social well-being. It acknowledges the therapeutic benefits of nature and encourages people to connect with the outdoors for health benefits. ❤️ This patient wellbeing approach helps to: improve mental health outcomes, reduce health inequalities and reduce demand on the health and social care system 💫 The Active Way with Bath & North East Somerset Council project starts with 26 hyper-local walking routes across communities like Midsomer Norton, Paulton, Radstock and more. We're workind to ensure that everyone can participate in the joy of walking, regardless of ability or background. Almost half of our trails have been designed to be flat without steps or stiles, inviting individuals of all ages and fitness levels to put on their shoes and join us on a new journey of exploration. Many of the routes start and end at community GP surgeries and healthcare facilities. Conclusive evidence that retrofitting substandard housing can benefit both your physical and mental wellbeing. Ireland's Dept of Environment produced the final report on the governments Warmth and Wellbeing pilot scheme, a report that was culminated over the past eight years and involved multiple agencies. The research shows that over a three-year period following their energy efficiency upgrade, participants reported fewer GP consultations, fewer emergency room visits and fewer hospital admissions, particularly in relation to respiratory conditions as well as fewer prescriptions for medication. As we look ahead to the future, it is imperative that the next government prioritises the safety and well-being of those living in care homes and their carers. A crucial step towards achieving this goal includes the implementation of choice-based, consent-led, independent safety monitoring in dementia care communities. The current system often falls short in ensuring the highest standards of care and safety for our most vulnerable. We need a government that is committed to making substantial and meaningful changes in this area. Choice-Based Care - Empowering individuals to make choices about their care improves their quality of life and ensures that their personal preferences and needs are respected. Independent Safety Monitoring - To maintain high standards of care, independent safety monitoring should be supported in all care homes. This involves monitoring by independently led healthcare professionals. Independent monitoring ensures unbiased assessments of care quality and safety, and it holds care homes accountable for their standards. Support for Carers - Carers play an essential role in the well-being of care home residents. The next government must also focus on the needs of carers, providing them with adequate resources, and support. This includes mental health support, fair wages, and national opportunities for professional development.
