You simply will not make leaps and jumps in your lifts and life changing looks on your body unless you’re taking performance enhancements and I don’t want that for you. 2️⃣You simply won’t look apart compared to the fitness bodybuilders you see on social media. It’s a lot of variables that have taken place for them to look that way. (Drugs and genetics) Let’s just call it what it is. 3️⃣There is a cap on how big and strong you can get. I hate to say this, but you will be inhibited due to the fact you will get older and also your genetics simply can no longer keep improving, there is an eventual decline. I say this to say have expectations for yourself and what you can achieve, you’re going down a deep rabbit hole if you consistently compare yourself to other social media influencers all the time. Bring effort and intensity to each session and see where your natural body takes you.

As a clinical psychologist, I’ve seen the detrimental effects this can have on self-esteem and mental health. It’s crucial to remember that true beauty and worth come from within. Here’s how to embrace self-love and resist the pressure from social media: 1. Recognize the Illusion: Understand that social media often showcases curated and filtered highlights. Influencers don’t share their struggles and imperfections, which are a natural part of life. 2. Practice Gratitude: Focus on what you love about yourself and your life. Cons of social media. Validation and compliments, even the misguided ones, have become such as focus for many individuals and they measure their worth on them. This can be dangerous for mental and physical health. In terms of the health messages in the video, it is important to differentiate between health and aesthetics - they are not the same thing. Being thin does not necessarily mean healthy (or beautiful, regardless of what the media may say!). In my messaging I always aim to convey health based on scientific understanding, without the use of smoke & mirrors. I apply this approach to my generic blog posts and social media, and personalised client work.
Influencers coming out and admitting to dishonesty. What a surprise. In the food industry, the scene is rampant with orthorexic individuals who post about healthy pancakes and flapjacks without being honest about the fact that they do “hours and hours” of cardio a day. As this influencer admits. Selling to their followers that’s it’s achievable with fitness programs or nutrition. When in fact, the influencer is pushing their body to the point where they no longer have a menstrual cycle. As brands we need to be so careful that when we’re selling a product, we’re not also selling the idea that you can eat certain foods to look a certain way. And piggybacking from people’s disorder. Because it just leads to this global self hatred young girls in particular have at the moment.
