FINANCIAL SERVICES DEAL 🤝 The Berne Financial Services Convention (MRA) between Switzerland and the UK mutually recognizes the equivalence of their regulatory and supervisory frameworks in specific financial sectors, including banking, investment services, insurance, asset management, and financial market infrastructures for sophisticated clients. The MRA will not have a substantial immediate impact on Swiss and UK portfolio managers but signals strong future cooperation. It provides a basis for further development and possible expansion. Ratification by both governments is expected between late 2024 and early 2025. #mutualrecognitionagreement #crossborder

As we bring capital markets liquidity to SME-focused working capital lenders, the role fulfilled by credit insurers remains critical, if not more. Wanted: More data Synthetic securitisations, risk transfers, programmatic approaches – the MDB toolkit is growing. But, as voiced by attendees and speakers at the recent Texel DevFIns Conference 2024, whatever the tool used, MDBs need to enhance their data transparency to mobilise greater volumes of insurance capital. In the latest feature, Uxolo's reporter Clara Browne-Amorim discusses the role of multilateral development banks (MDBs) and development finance institutions (DFIs) in addressing the $4 trillion financing gap in developing countries to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While MDBs and DFIs lack sufficient lending capacity, private capital, particularly from the insurance industry, presents a promising liquidity source. However, challenges such as asymmetric data access hinder private investors from fully engaging with MDB loan portfolios, highlighting the need for greater data transparency and collaboration between MDBs and insurers to bridge the financing gap effectively.
