My interest in virtual reality, influenced by early '90s concepts such as "Lawrence Man," showcases a progression from imagination to cutting-edge reality, emphasising a spectrum of innovation and technological advancements. The growth of VR, from early hobbyists to professional applications, demonstrates many stories of virtual adventure and the limitless potential ahead.

This is one of the most exciting things about 3D geospatial I'm seeing today: Servicemembers developing the simulations they need, for themselves. The French Air Force Heli Lab augments its training for helicopter pilots, crew members, and medics both in the air and on the ground with VR simulations using Cesium for Unreal. What's truly remarkable is the speed with which these simulations were developed. In just one year, the helicopter VR training went from an idea (TRL 1) to full-fledged operations (TRL 9). And the results speak for themselves - at facilities in both France and Gabon the French Air Force Heli Lab qualifies 18 pilots, 6-10 winch operators, and 6-10 medics each year using the VR program as 30-50% of their training. Cesium ion Self-Hosted allows them to host, tile, and stream massive heterogeneous 3D data within strict security requirements in their own environment.
