The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, delved into Canada's housing supply objectives and the associated challenges on the REAL TIME Podcasts. He highlighted the urgent need to close the supply gap, noting that approximately 5.8 million additional homes need to be constructed by 2030 to restore housing affordability and meet the growing demand. Fraser elaborated on the housing plan released in April, which outlines three pivotal strategies for increasing home construction: 1.Reducing Building Costs: Implementing measures to lower the expenses involved in constructing new homes, making housing more affordable for both builders and buyers. 2.Streamlining the Construction Process: Simplifying regulatory and procedural barriers to make it easier and faster to build new homes. 3. Adopting Innovative Building Strategies: Embracing new and effective methods and technologies in construction to improve efficiency and sustainability.

"If you're working on urban planning policy, and you're not contemplating or integrating how urban development will respond to that, you're not doing your job," our CEO, Kalen Anderson, says of the critical importance of public sector planners working collaboratively with the industry, and other key stakeholders, to build housing and to shape communities. She added, "Policies are only good if they affect change. You can write anything on a piece of paper, but if you're not getting the results you want, or getting an unintended consequence, it's a pointless policy." In Edmonton, city builders are practical in their approach, and are innovating each and every day to respond to a whole host of external factors. The imperative to deliver on housing, for example, has fortified Council, Administration, industry, and community to rally around zoning and permit processes to expedite development. Thanks Canadian Real Estate Forums for the opportunity to share our industry's insights through your podcast! #EREF Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/g_9GA4GB
