Check this out if you're in the healthcare space. Reach out to Paddy directly to get more information on how he can help your business succeed!
My first role in healthcare I was given a 500 page pharma industry report; and told to start booking meetings with pharma for a 'wearables' product we were launching... 🤯 It took me about a week to pluck up the courage to even ask what the hell a wearable is! Needless to say I was not very successful... Sadly not much has changed. Most sales reps in healthcare walk into a situation where they are destined to fail. This is especially true in an industry like healthcare/life science where it's packed with jargon, confusing incentives and complex org structures. If you're too deep in the weeds to realize this try talking to a significant other or family member that's not in the space and watch their eyes glaze over!! 😳 From my experience sales hires come in two forms for healthcare/life science companies: ⏺ SDR. Junior level folks straight out of college or in their first sales role. ⏺ Sales Director/VP. Typically coming from an established sales org; or a subject matter expert transitioning into a sales role (the latter is very common). Unfortunately there's a mismatch between skills/experience and expectations. Companies expect these hires to stand up an outbound operation. (tech, email infrastructure, prospecting, messaging) Then, when they can't build enough pipeline, they're let go. At this point the company has spent serious $$$; and wasted time brining its product to market. All because they don't know what it take to set up a successful lead gen motion. Work with Health Biz Growth to: ⏺ Build a system that is plug and play ⏺ Then if you DO hire sales reps, plug them into that system. #leadgen #heathcare #GTM

This is a real challenge in 2024, based upon data from 2023. So why do we keep hiring people with specific product or product sector experience when the data shows that could be the worst thing a VP of sales ever allows in his or her department? If you are leading a sales team or field sales organization in 2024, you have some work cut out for you. Not only are you are fully responsible for the sales outcomes…you are also fully accountable to make sure you are not hiring sales representatives who have not mastered the art of selling. The data here shows selling and leading a sales team or organization is more about possessing the skill vs. having experience. The vast majority of people that are either leading a team or selling a specific product definitely have experience, but it doesn’t mean that they have the skill set. Mastering the art of selling is about possessing the skill set not having the experience. There’s other data that shows that 70% of sales managers are not “Effectively” coaching their team members on how to overcome buyers resistance or prevent buyers resistance in the first place. #medtech #healthtech #sales #selling #vp #salesmanager #management #pharma

It is IMPOSSIBLE to break into med device sales! I hear this from young professionals all the time. Companies require experience but how do you get the the experience? Aesthetic device companies recruit top B2B sales reps who sell copiers, payroll, and uniforms. The reason is simple. They all require a massive amount of face to face cold calling. They have to constantly hustle and have a non stop motor to exceed quota. They can handle denial. The risk profile of an aesthetic device company is significantly lower when they recruit from these industries. The bottom line is if you're graduating from college, dialing for dollars as an inside sales rep, or an account manager and truly want to break into med device sales seek an opportunity in one of these industries. You go to college for 4 years for a degree. It only takes 2-3 years of cold calling, hustling, and quota crushing and your chances of breaking into med device skyrocket!!!! Please give this a like if it was helpful advice or if you agree and let us know what you did prior to breaking into med device. What experience do you need for med sales? For me other the past 6 years in the industry I feel my perspective is one most can learn from and I could help many understand this industry from a little bit of a different way but still learn from so many at the same time daily. That being said… One of the experiences that creates success especially in the part of medical sales I’m currently in which is TOTALLY different than any other I’ve been in is *Hospital Navigation*. Really understanding where your targets are to learn the most for actively engaging with. No longer am I trying to speak with providers regularly although have an impact on what I provide. Speaking with IT directors, Ergonomic specialists, CNOs, business managers, architects, facilities directors etc are where I spend most of time but in more of a consulting role to help plan and create the best solution. Now why is this important? Understanding your target audience in a role is so important to maximize your time and efforts. This holds true in any position in med sales of course and for some reading this may be saying “well duh!” But for those out there that are trying to land a position in med sales it’s crucial when interviewing to know bc a hiring manager is going to want to know you have a great handle on how you are going to attack your territory. Much more to come on this topic in the New Year as we get into a hiring season for most companies and with the content we will be creating for GenR. Generation Rep #GeaR Jameil ‘Jay’ Pendleton™
