The City of Austin should be ashamed and embarassed to still call Rainey Street a historic district. It's about as historic as the Freedmenstown Historic District in Houston (actually, it's worse), which is saying something. Given the too-often idiotic "integrity" discussions about historic district nominations in the first place, we should simply scrub from the National Register über-gentrified neighborhoods such as these. It stops the pretense. Never forget that this is the city that redefined local Black history to benefit a rich white golf course, and that simultaneously demolished the first Black public housing in America. And did so in a defamatory, fake, and venal manner. Actual historic cities in Europe such as Siena, Bruges, Carcasonne, or Prague (to name a few), look at American "market" based cultural heritage programs with laughter and disdain.

Attention to my pharma folks! This is a great book to buy. Not so gentle reminder that 2042, US will be majority Black and Hispanic. Representation for Black doctors is a ~4 or 5% and it was MUCH higher before the AMA helped force the closure of many Black medical schools. This means many Black patients very rarely see a Black doctor and that is important because we have better health outcomes when we are treated by a Black doctor. White physicians will still be the majority in 2042, so a lot of us have some prep work to do. Here's a book that can help on that journey. For my marketers, start thinking about cultural competency KOLs. Certain conditions, like breast cancer, impact Black women younger, but the mammogram screening age is an aggregate, like a patient targeting segment. This means the behaviors that we are tracking to and mapping are those of White women, not all women. It leads to greater disease progression, which is obviously awful, but Black women are less likely to be offered a 2nd line treatment by doctors, EVEN though they are more likely to begin and adhere (we need a new word) to treatment. Read a few books, change a lot of behaviors and more Black women live. How is that not a win? #pharmamarketing #culturalcompetency #healthequity #racisminmedicine

For too long, our histories have been told by others, often leaving out the richness and depth of our experiences. BALLISTIC BALLERS CIC is changing that by creating spaces where young people can envision their futures, connect with mentors, and cultivate their unique stories. As Black History Month draws to a close, let’s keep the momentum going.
