There’s no denying data centres are hot stuff, and not just because of the heat they produce. Data centers have become integral to our daily lives, serving as the backbone of our digital world. They facilitate countless aspects of modern society, often without us even realizing it. Recognizing the growing interest in understanding data centers' role in our economy, we welcomed @The Times to tour our LD6 Data Center in the UK. This visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at the critical infrastructure and operations that make our interconnected world possible. There's a lot of attention on data centers lately, and rightly so. They are the lifeblood of modern society, connect us in meaningful ways, and bring significant economic value to the communities where they operate. They are also big, growing, and require a lot of power to support demands of AI and other hi compute applications. While data centers might be at the crux of the issue, the data center industry alone cannot solve this issue. It is complex and demands the involvement of public and private sectors, communities, and state, federal and other incentives to drive sustainable solutions. Essentially, it requires partnership at the most fundamental levels. It's not an easy issue to cover as a journalist because there are so many layers; to do it justice, it takes time. Today in The Washington Post there are two stories on Equinix that show what balanced, thoughtful coverage looks like when reporters care to dig deep and peel back layers to a story. Thank you to all of the journalists that worked on these stories to help readers understand the factors behind the growth, power consumption, career opportunities and breakthroughs in cleaner energy. https://wapo.st/3zxJhih https://wapo.st/3TxWD4S
Today WashingtonPost.com (and in their app) features two Data Center related articles featuring Equinix. The first is about what happens inside a data center, and I applaud the care that Antonio Olivio, William Neff, Hadley Green and Daron Taylor took to understand this technical environment and present it in terms and ways all sorts of readers and viewers can consume and understand. I was glad to have a chance to participate in this story which I hope will help demystify what happens in data centers like those owned and operated by Equinix. https://lnkd.in/e8x_ASgn

A large-scale data center development called the Fairburn Technology Center is being proposed in Fairburn, Fulton County, just outside the booming Atlanta data center market. According to state filings, the project would span a staggering 1.19 million square feet across three data center buildings on a 59-acre site at 8125 Bohannon Drive. It's expected to be completed by 2028 if approved. The mystery developer behind the entity Bohannon Companies LLC is working with law firm Troutman Pepper Strategies on the proposal, which requires rezoning the currently agricultural-zoned property for industrial use. While many specifics around the Fairburn Technology Center remain unclear, the sheer scale represents a major bet on Atlanta's future as an epicenter for digital infrastructure growth supporting accelerating cloud/AI adoption. If realized, this would become one of the largest single data center campuses in greater Atlanta, alongside major developments from operators like Microsoft, CoreSite, QTS Data Centers, DataBank, Flexential, Switch, DC BLOX, Edged, STACK Infrastructure, T5 Data Centers, Vantage Data Centers, and EdgeConneX
