We couldn't agree more with Anne Boden in her recent article for This Is Money, where she reflects on the challenges she faced in establishing Starling Bank. Her statement, “we don’t need to temper our personalities to suit the environment. The status quo needs to shift” really resonated with us. This is exactly why Laura Brunnen founded the March community. To shift the status quo and to provide a safe space where women in M&A can be themselves and support one another.

Today, Canadian women control 38% of wealth. By 2030, it's predicted that figure will grow to 48%. In this new article from the Globe and Mail, Anna Dayan shares as women amass substantial wealth, whether through entrepreneurial ventures, inheritance, or successful careers, they are increasingly taking charge of preserving and growing their family's financial legacy. I recently had the pleasure of meting Anna Dayan, at TD Wealth Private Management conference and I have been truly inspired by her insighta on women's wealth management. In this article, Anna emphasises the importance of changing outdated perceptions and eempowering women to take active roles in financial decision-making. Her advocacy for supporting women investors and addressing their unique financial challendges are both commendable and inspiring. This article is a compelling call to action for redifining the narraive around women and wealth. Smart Money Strategist / Empowering women to feel confident about their financial future / Creating generational wealth / The majority of my clients are women, but I also enjoy working with qualified men.
During Women’s History Month, it seems fitting to acknowledge the many impressive women in history who have worked tirelessly to advance women's financial independence. One that might not be so well known is Maggie Lena Walker. In 1903, Walker became both the first African American woman to charter a bank, and the first African American woman to serve as a bank president for the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank. The bank's leadership also included several female board members. As a leader, Walker achieved successes with the vision to make tangible improvements in the way of life for women. How can you follow the great example of courage and ingenuity that Maggie left for us? How about creating your own personal bank? Did you know that was a thing? Many women are using this strategy to grow their money tax free and create an opportunity fund for themselves now, that will eventually become a retirement fund in the future. If you’d like to learn more about how you can create one too, feel free to reach out. #womensupportingwomen #womeninspiringwomen #womenandwealth #smartmoneystrategist

For Women's History Month, I recently spoke with Josh Welsh from Investment News. In my mind, the two most important takeaways from our conversation were as follows: When it comes to working with female clients: This may be counterintuitive, but....Look beyond gender! The only way to service female clients properly is not to think about them as a segment, but to look at how their wealth has been made- whether they are a founder, divorcee, executive, or have inherited wealth will ultimately matter more than their chromosomes ;). When it comes to giving advice to young women in the industry: Mentorship makes a difference-- and not the type that is forced, but the relationships that are made authentically. At the end of the day, you want your mentor talking about you when you are not in the room; you want them advocating for you; and you want them putting your name forward for opportunities that you may not know even exist. https://ubs.gv6.co/lDvGee

Fascinating read (not just because some folks I've worked with and for are mentioned). There's a lot to be said about the career progression of women in financial services, and this piece just describes the issue - which will very likely be worse a decade from now as the gendered impacts of the pandemic are felt in the more senior levels (of every industry). https://lnkd.in/gNgJCyZP
Bank CEO succession is the talk of Bay Street, but women are not likely candidates

More than 700 million women in low- and middle-income countries remain without any access to financial services. This is about the size of Europe and is totally unacceptable! To close this large gender gap in financial services, we need a whole-of-market response involving both public and private sectors to drive change. We propose to create coalitions at country-level that implement intentional, gender-specific approaches focused on five areas: setting up shared public-private goals, leveraging robust gender-disaggregated data, putting in place enabling policies, fostering inclusive investments, and challenging gender norms. Bold, collaborative solutions tailored to women's realities are essential, combined with seamless feedback loops to share and scale successes. The time to act is now to unleash the power of women to contribute to our world’s incredible challenges! CGAP will be testing this new approach in some jurisdictions that are committed to closing their gender gap in financial services. We will share progress and lessons as we go along! Thank you Jescinta Izevbigie, Gayatri Murthy! https://lnkd.in/dwRqXPh7
