We are pleased to announce our emcee and former honoree for the 2024 Women Making a Mark Awards Brunch, Dr. Alpa V. Patel, PhD, MPH. As both a researcher and dedicated American Cancer Society (ACS) volunteer, Alpa feels privileged to be part of an organization that works to remove barriers to care and improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support. The ACS believes everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. Alpa is the principal investigator of the ACS Cancer Prevention Studies (CPS), CPS-II and CPS-3, which are among the country’s largest population cohort studies, focusing on how physical activity, sedentary behavior, and obesity affect the risk of developing or dying from cancer. Last month, ACS launched VOICES of Black Women, a groundbreaking initiative to enroll 100,000 U.S. Black women, between 25 and 55, who have never had cancer. This isn’t just a study; it’s a collective commitment to understanding and improving the health of Black women in Atlanta and across our nation. American Cancer Society
