I am really excited about Severn River Association's #oysterrestoration program this summer! It's kicking off next month in three big ways: 1) We are putting in 10 MILLION #oysters on our #restoration reef at Traces Hollow 2a with the help of our partners Oyster Recovery Partnership -- and with YOUR HELP (see the match grant alert below): https://lnkd.in/g9UgCMY7 2) Our #MarylandersGrowOysters program participants will be planting their home-grown oysters on a different area of Traces Hollow starting June 1. SRA has the largest MGO program with over 300 households growing oysters in cages off of docks/piers for nine months while the spat on shell grow big and strong enough for planting on a #reef. 3) With our boat Sea Girl finally repaired and back in the water, we will be fitting her with a newly designed instrument. Late this summer that instrument will pump oyster #larvae onto yet another #restorationreef for 'direct setting', a new technique that may be able to supplement (but not supplant) our other restoration techniques. Tanka Fund is dedicated to aiding rancher partners in returning Buffalo to their ancestral lands by providing necessary infrastructure. A crucial aspect of this support involves helping ranchers construct specific fencing to safely manage their Buffalo herds. One Native rancher is close to completing his fencing project, which will allow him to care for up to 150 Buffalo. Financial contributions are needed to help finish the remaining 5½ miles of fencing. The cost of fencing is approximately $34 per foot, and donations are crucial to help complete the remaining fencing this summer. In 2024, a crack team of Building Control specialists (and Martin Barrett) was assembled to walk... yes, WALK... a grueling half marathon for a cause that truly matters. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them on the 18th of September, maybe you can support... The HBC-Team! Gary "The Master Planner" Cass – The man with the map (and the snacks). No step will be taken without his expert guidance... unless he’s distracted by a coffee break. David "The Pace-Setter" Aitchison – His legs move faster than building regulations get updated! He’s ready to walk like it’s the final inspection. Craig "No Obstacle Too Tall" McMahon – Whether it’s a kerb, a hill, or an unwieldy building control tracker, Craig tackles it all with a can-do attitude. Martin "Why Walk When You Can Run?" Barrett (Yes, another one! It’s confusing for us too...especially with Martin's back) – The motivator, the machine, and possibly the one we’ll have to catch up with. On the 18th of September, representing Hertfordshire Building Control, we’re trading in our hard hats for walking shoes, all for Hertfordshire Young Homeless – a cause that’s helping vulnerable young people get off the streets and into safe housing.
