Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind’s Post

Meet Atlantic Shores’ People Behind Our Projects.  Atlantic City is known for its casino industry, but bringing a new industry and new opportunities to the region is more than just a professional goal for Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind’s Roberto Polanco—it's personal. Roberto is an electrical engineer and an Atlantic County native. “Growing up, all I knew was casinos because that's where my parents and most of our friends worked. They spent their entire lives working there and actually still do today,” said Roberto. “Atlantic City relies heavily on casinos, and while they are good businesses, depending solely on one industry isn’t healthy for any economy or local community so it’s important to have a new industry like Atlantic Shores come into the area.”     One of Atlantic Shores’ core values is to be a good neighbor. That’s why Roberto participates in events like OffshoreWind4Kids, a hands-on STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, and Math) learning experience sponsored by Atlantic Shores that uses model wind turbines to teach students about renewable energy.    “Growing up in the area, I didn't know all the opportunities that there were in the utility or the electrical field or about engineering in general,” said Roberto. “Today, I enjoy being able to advocate for STEM and teach children about what’s available for careers and professional trades.”    He also encourages other young people to consider a career in renewable energy. “It’s a very stable industry. We are working to address climate change so there will be a continuous flow of jobs coming within this industry.”     And for those not interested in engineering, Roberto works to tell people about additional opportunities Atlantic Shores will bring to New Jersey including those for carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. He said, "It's great to work in the same area where I grew up and know that I'm making a positive impact on the community. We're addressing environmental issues and bringing much-needed jobs to the Atlantic City area." Roberto is thrilled to work for Atlantic Shores, a company that is not only bringing clean power but also creating jobs in the community where he grew up, attended local schools, played youth sports, and continues to live today.
