Let's give it up for our 2024 Horizon nominees! The Horizons was created in 2016 to recognize young professionals destined to become this City's future leaders. "The idea I had at the time was to recognize young professionals who are often overlooked because they're just starting their careers. So, to me, the Horizons is a place where we give you a high five, a pat on the back, and tell you we see you, know you're working hard, keep up the great work," said Terrance Craft, MPA, the organization's Executive Director. Terrance's idea became a vision and is now the organization's biggest event, followed by the Annual Meeting and Honors. "When you have a vision, you must communicate it repeatedly and get people to believe in it. When that happens, you'll have many people invested in your vision, and they will help you achieve it. So it's been amazing to see the Horizons grow and evolve over the past eight years. And this year's committee, led by Breanna OConnell, has been touching for me to witness because now I get to see their vision they have and how they're able to make it a reality." A year ago today, we had our retreat where we reviewed our goals, vision, mission, and more. It was a time filled with reflections. During those three days, we engaged in numerous activities designed to foster creativity and teamwork, including brainstorming sessions and innovative ideas that would shape our projects for the upcoming year. Listening to each other’s perspectives highlighted the diverse strengths within our group, and each voice contributed to refining our objectives. The insights gained during that retreat have not only influenced our strategic direction but also strengthened our commitment towards achieving our goal. Our Vision: Empowering youth with decision-making capabilities while fostering a closely connected network of ambitious young minds. Our Mission: To provide upskilling programs and support that empower youth to become influential decision-makers driving sustainable change and leadership in their communities.

Thank you 🙏 Jennifer Gerves-Keen for sharing!! Your post got me thinking 💭🤔🧐 We're so often taught the importance of #leadership - those pivotal roles where we guide teams and drive progress. But what about #followership? Both are vital skills for #success. Following means supporting a shared #vision, not just passive compliance. It's rolling up sleeves to help #leaders succeed. 💪 But how often do we discuss this equally important job? 🤔 A leader without followers is just a person alone in a room. 🚶 And true #partnerships emerge when we understand each perspective. We must value not just those at the helm, but the hands that help steer the ship. 🤝 Has our focus on producing leaders left some unable to follow well? We accomplish more #together than apart. The next time you are offered a leadership position, reflect also on how you'll empower others to lead in turn. 🙏 Being a great follower makes you a better leader. We develop by studying both roles. 🧠 What are your thoughts on learning the art of followership alongside leadership? How might prioritizing both strengthen your skills and teams?
Still reflecting on all the learning and connections from the Global Followership Conference in Glasgow last week at the University of Strathclyde. In the post-pandemic workforce of 2024, followership is a critical skill both for organizational success and individual career progression and yet very few people in the field of leadership talk about it, or are even aware of it. The followership community is rich in knowledge, talent and research and I encourage you to delve a little deeper to learn more, or reach out - I'd be happy to chat! Huge thanks to Samantha Kerr Hurwitz, CPA CHRL, Marc Hurwitz, PhD MBA MSc MSc CMC, Dr. Wendy M. Edmonds, David Scott and the rest of the conference team, along with my fellow presenters and attendees who created an open and energetic learning environment! To name a few: Lindsay Y. Burr, Tim Hurson, Sharna Fabiano, Ira Chaleff, Debra Finlayson, MA, SHRM-CP, CPHR, Jane Bentley, Langley Sharp MBE, Greg Malone, David Love MSc(Ed), David Chant, Simon Lash https://lnkd.in/dHgRCisY

Corporate Culture = Brand ^ Biggest takeaway from this presentation. It's so important to work in a company where leadership values culture. Big thanks to Mark for inviting me to join this talk!
Colin Whitney came in and gave an inspiring talk to three MBA students and some of our team on the need for alignment between our Brand and Corporate Culture this week! Thanks Colin for opening our minds to “Why Culture Matters”! #EPLSGroupofCompanies #AsperMBA #DirectFocusMarketing

I’ve been a passionate advocate for creative people throughout my career. As a songwriter, musician, record producer, label owner and music publisher, I have always instinctively understood the importance of mutually beneficial creative collaborations and the multifaceted benefits of providing genuine opportunities for other people to advance their careers too. I was actively building “circular, sustainable economies” long before I knew there was actually a technical definition for them and I certainly had no notion of being a contributor to what is now deemed “The Creative Industries.” What others refer to as “The Creative Industries” represents “another day at the office” for me and much of what has now attained very impressive official and sounding descriptions has always been fundamental to what I do on a daily basis. The Creative Industries are important economic “engines” that deliver substantial revenues to the UK coffers (not to mention an essential facilitator of invaluable social wealth), so I am absolutely delighted to discover the tremendous work being done by people like Leigh Natasha Salter and her Team Creative Industries Property Summit (CIPS) who are facilitating meaningful discussions and collaborations designed to encourage further growth in what remains a seriously underfunded and underrepresented sector. I am grateful that I have been invited to share some ideas and thoughts with like-minded people. I will be speaking at an inaugural event hosted by Movers & Shakers named the: “Creative Industries Property Summit” (26th June 2024 at Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9AG). The theme for the event is “The Creative Economy - A key driver for UK Growth + the Power for Better Places and Lives.” The mere fact that such an event is taking place at all is a very encouraging sign that influential people are starting to recognise the underutilised potential of the Creative Industries and are interested in exploring ways to contribute in a substantive way. CLICK HERE <https://lnkd.in/en4G4Hx5> for more information. I encourage you to attend and to use the opportunity to network with individuals who are seldom in the same place, at the same time and for a common purpose aimed at improving the prospects of creative people in the UK. #MusicJustice #Creativity #Community #Regeneration #Music #Enterprise #SocialValue #MoversandShakers
