Calibration labels are crucial indicators of a device's accuracy. As per ANSI/ASQC standard, "To alert the user about the status of a piece of test equipment, all equipment should be labeled. Equipment not labeled is considered not calibrated and is not to be used". #calibration #calibrationlabels #measurements

QMS Specialist - API Spec Q1 & ISO 9001, Lead auditor - ISO 9001 & ISO 45001, CSWIP 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector, NDT Level II in PT, MT, UT, RT & LT, API 6D, API 600, API 594, API 609, API 623, API 16A, API 6A, ASME
Calibration Vs Verification Let’s see what is calibration & what is Verification as per QMS standard? As Per clause 3.1.3 of API Spec Q1 10th Edition, Calibration: Process of comparison to a standard of known accuracy, Comparison of results against TMMDE (Testing, Measuring, Monitoring & Detection equipment’s) acceptance criteria and if applicable making necessary adjustment(s). Verification: Calibration of Non-adjustable equipment can be referred to as Verification. So, it infers that “Verification is also the process of comparison to a standard of known accuracy, Comparison of results against TMMDE (Testing, Measuring, Monitoring & Detection equipment’s) acceptance criteria but non-adjustable”. So, Verification is inherent in the process of Calibration. However, If adjustment(s) are possible in the Calibration of equipment’s, then Calibration should not be referred to as verification. For Calibration: Let us take one example: - Micrometer: As it is an adjustable equipment, whether adjustment is made or not during calibration, it should not be referred to as Verification. For Verification: Let us take one example: - Thread Plug gauge: As it is a non-adjustable attribute gauge, calibration can be referred to as verification. Summary is, For Adjustable equipment’s – Calibration is the only term. For Non-adjustable equipment’s – Both Calibration and verification can be used. In Clause 5.8 of API Spec Q1 10th Edition, the term” Verification” has been totally removed from the section which will not have any impact, because the term calibration can be used for both adjustable & Non-adjustable equipment’s. #api #iso90012015 #oilandgas #automobile #powersector #qms #qualityassurance #qualitycontrol #qualitymanagement #calibration #verification #laboratory #testingservices #nabl Do post your comments & views on the above content.
