Reflecting on my recent 3-week journey in Germany this June... It was a trip meticulously planned over 8 months, filled with anticipation and excitement. But as life often teaches us, even the best-laid plans can take unexpected turns. From delayed trains to thunderstorms and a relentless heat wave without AC, not to mention impromptu laundry sessions in a sink and a memorable bug invasion—chaos was definitely on the itinerary. Amidst the beauty and wonder, there was also disappointment and madness. 🌩️🌪️ Why share this? Because life, like travel, isn't always smooth sailing. Perhaps you've experienced a big goal or dream that faced unexpected challenges—maybe it soared or stumbled, leaving you wondering whether to persevere or let go. Here's what I've learned: setting intentions and manifesting can get messy. Yet, every experience, no matter how chaotic, offers lessons that shape us for the better. Trust that through it all, you'll grow, learn, and thrive. 🌟 Navigating life's twists and turns often requires a delicate balance—knowing when to push through and when to surrender. It's this depth and nuance that fuels my work with clients, guiding them towards greater clarity and awareness in their own journeys. If you're seeking support or inspiration, reply "YES" and let's connect. Here's to your journey—may it be marked by resilience, growth, and moments of unexpected beauty. 🌿💫

#MeetTSS: This month’s spotlight is on Jonathan Tulier who has been an asset and a force since he was brought on to manage our Port Everglades operations in 2022. He was recently promoted to Senior Operations Manager overseeing all of our cruise, cargo and safeguarding accounts in South Florida. Let’s ask Jonathan how it’s going: Q: What initially attracted you to a career in cruise terminal security? A: I started my security career at McRoberts Protective Agency in Sep 1999. It was my first experience with cruise terminal security, and I was immediately drawn to the joy and energy of the vacationing passengers. Q: What is interesting or noteworthy about your port locations? A: Every port has its own demographic. It’s interesting. There are some who tend to have more Gen X and Millennials, but Port Everglades is the first port I’ve worked where the majority of the demographic are Baby Boomers and that’s a fun demographic to work with and serve. Q: What are some of the unique challenges of cruise terminal security (or the security industry) and how do you handle them? A: One of the most challenging aspects in cruise security is the seasonal schedule. Retaining our highly trained staff when the season ends or slows down is a priority but can be tough. The best way to manage it is with transparency and balancing the opportunities with every employee. Q: How does your security team contribute to the overall positive experience of cruise passengers while ensuring their safety? A: We love our guests at Port Everglades. They tend to be a more senior demographic, so we make sure to exercise the highest customer service with patience and empathy. Many passengers have had hip or knee replacements and so we know we need to be extra gentle and accommodating. We often see the same passengers back-to-back and they always seem to be happy to see us. Q: What would people be surprised to learn about you? A: I’ve ran 6 major marathons and have more than 80 trophies. This year I will be participating in the Berlin marathon. Despite getting older, my performance is surprisingly increasing. My last half marathon PR was 820. Q: What do you value most about working with TSS? A: I value colleagues like Mike Lee, Alex A., and Jose Serrano. They are very knowledgeable and have worked in this field even longer than I have. TSS is very dedicated to Maritime Security. Q: What would you want people who are considering a career at TSS or in maritime security to know? A: I have been in this field for 24 years. When I first started my security career in 1999 as a Security Officer, I thought it would be a temporary job but decided to take it seriously. Just like marathon running, if you practice discipline, you can achieve your goals. It’s not about how fast you finish but keeping the pace and being consistent. Sometimes you aren’t at 100 but you have to keep going. I took my security role seriously and it paid off.

Chances to look differently are everywhere. This summer I took a road trip through California, Arizona, and Nevada with my family. The variety of scenery, climate, food and places we stayed, as well as the company on the roads, made for a memorable trip. It opened my mind, and I grew. My first experience of the US was driving coast to coast is 1/2 of Thelma and Louise 31 years ago. It was a Budget trip as a fresh graduate and the places I hung out at were basic. All those years later, with slightly more budget again and with kids to entertain, I experienced it in a different way. I’ve traveled to the US for work a lot too, but I see things through a different lens on those occasions. The places we visit don’t change, but the way in which you experience them do. It is often that that makes it inspirational. Translate that to work. 💡If you want new inspiration, why not try looking at things in a different way to? Innovation and ideas don’t need to be brand new things, often the same thing done differently is as impactful. Diverse perspectives do drive creativity and you can regularly expand you own perspectives by looking differently. ❓How can you change your vantage point to being new thinking to your challenges? #diverseperspectives #innovation #travel #ideas #creativity #thinkdifferently

Has your career path taken an unexpected detour? Have you ever stopped to think about your childhood dream job? The one job you just knew you wanted to do every day? How has that worked out for you? The chances are, like for many, it didn’t. For many of us, reality takes a different flight path. Take me, I dreamt of being an Air Steward, soaring through the skies and exploring new destinations. Unfortunately, my aspirations came to a hard landing when I learned that height and vision was a must back then. The nearest I got to an Airline was selling their tickets from a smokey office in London, and my first lesson learned then was that I’m great at meeting targets! As we now know having experienced life a little more, life has a way of throwing a swerve ball in front of our dreams (thanks, height restrictions!) and sometimes, our careers take a detour so sharp that it leaves us wondering how we even ended up on that pathway. Maybe you were sold a dream job that turned out to be a boring routine, or you followed the "safe" path only to find it unfulfilling. It's a common experience, leaving many feeling lost and unsure of their next move. But deep down, even though a detour was taken, you know you have a chance to get back on the pathway you knew was your destiny. But, don’t rush into it, if you’re going to change direction completely be sure to take the time to reflect and dig through the weeds you gathered along the way, and recognise those unexpected strengths you gathered along your journey that are a true reflection of your worth. Remember, your career doesn't have to be a predestined path. It's a journey of exploration and adaptation. If you find yourself miles away from your initial destination, and need support in guiding you through a process that will rediscover your passions and chart a new flight path, then I’m here to help lay that new runway! The final boarding call for your dream career hasn't sounded yet! Don’t waste anymore time waiting at the wrong departure gate.
