My Competition Journey... Me 'n Bert did a thinggggg at the weekend and took another step forward in our Competitive Obedience Journey...winning our first Test B. We were 3.5 marks clear of the rest of the field.. I'm beyond proud of this young boy. Judges Report: 1st Angela Watson with Hanans Golden Liberty@ Wygulmut (Berty). Golden Retriever. HW 4 ¼, Sendaway ½, Retrieve ½, Scent C, Total 5 ¼. "Beautiful Berty displayed breathtaking heelwork, no mean feat for mum Angela to achieve as he is such a crazy kid at still only 3 years old. He then had us holding our breath when it came to scent, since the last time we judged this team they led throughout the day only for Bouncing Berty to play the fool in the cloth department. This was the first B win for team A/B - there is no doubt that before the year is over they will be A/B in C. Fantastic job and so pleased for you!" The journey so far... 2020 Berty was born 2022 Started competing in April. Won 2 x Novice and 1 x Test A 2023 Won 3 x Test A and qualified for BCOS Grand Prix Final. Did Obedience Display at Crufts 2023. 2024 Won x 1 Test B... Next steps of the journey... 1 more B win 1 x 1st, 1 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd in Test C This will put us in the top Championship C class where we can then compete for a place at Crufts. It is not any way in their remit to pay pros generational wealth in a single check. I keep hearing the from the pros themselves that they are playing for legacy and trophies not money - The for profits (PGA TOUR, DP World Tour, Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA)) & others that self fund (LIV Golf, The Masters) may increase the purses as much as they like and sponsors will support - but the organizations that grow the game from grass roots support so that the leaderboards are full of flags from around the world should have the support of the professionals to cap the purses - The prestige of the Major shouldn't be contingent of the amount of the winners check. As Martin Slumbers bravely brought attention to the fact the escalation of purses on Golf's most important organizations is unsustainable. In addition, a reduction in the overall men's purse would, like tennis, hopefully allow equal men's and women's payouts in the majors hosted by those organizations as they support both.
