A lot of talk has been made recently about the quality and competitiveness of the top leagues in Europe. I figured it was a good opportunity to re-share one of my first data-driven articles from a few years ago where I analyzed league competitiveness. We already know how physical performance drops over the course of a match, however, does that correlate with a reduction in technical output? Are some players able to still output at the same level technically despite running less far or having fewer high speed actions? Equally, if they are producing at the same level technically, are those technical actions in the correct areas? Or because they have reduced their movement, are we finding players dictating play in areas that no longer work in the greater scheme of the tactics. These are the sort of questions you can answer with Playermaker. Those nuanced queries around why my team performs a certain way under certain conditions. I adore during demos asking coaches and analysts these sort of questions, as that's when you begin to see their knowledge kick in. Watching a coach go into their element and assess how they might improve performance, them hear them vocalise solutions is great fun. Shout out to Lauryn Groce and Hannah Siefert and team that put on a great event! 🙌🏾 This was actually my first networking event related to sports - and I got a chance to meet some great people. 3 Things I learned from the speakers: 1. “Micro Mentoring” anyone can be an expert in your circle in topics you may not excel in, at the minimum a friend 2. Successful leaders are intuitive but even more just want to learn as much as they can from areas that intrigue them - to then be a resource for multiple people in a organization. My favorite line was a “Swiss army knife” 3. Goals can look a lot of different ways and everyone may not understand your vision - so understand the business goals and relate those down to your long term vision no matter what your title is
