February is Heart month and yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the Executive Women’s Alliance meeting where we heard from Lisa Finley with the American Heart Association. It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and remember that they vary between men and women! 👉 chest discomfort 👉Shortness of breath 👉 Jaw, neck, or upper back pain 👉 Fainting 👉 Nausea or vomiting As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women may experience other symptoms that are typically less associated with heart attack, such as shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain. Learn the signs of heart attack and, even if you’re not sure it’s a heart attack, have it checked out. Minutes matter. Fast action can save lives – maybe your own. #thewoodlands #thewoodlandstx #grandopening #dpc #medicalmembership #conciergedoctor #directprimarycare #primarycare #shenandoah #doctor #physician #drsteelman #twtx #internalmedicine #boardcertified #topdoc #willsteelman #weightloss #dpcmedicine #doctorlifestyle #woodlands #woodlandstx #aesthetic #texasdoctors #montgomerycounty #moco #ghwcc #woodlandstx #bestofthewoodlands #drsteelman

When it comes to treating strokes, timing is everything. At 47, Amanda Sparks experienced her second stroke in 10 years. As soon as her symptoms started showing, she and her husband knew it was a race against the clock. Thankfully, in less than five hours, our team at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center was able to remove the dangerous blood clot successfully. This amazing feat was made possible by technology and teamwork. By leveraging tech that rapidly sends information to doctors and constantly optimizes medical team coordination to minimize treatment time, our team at Novant Health was able to save every one of Amanda's brain cells. At Novant Health, we are always working to deploy the strategies and technology that support timely and effective care. We understand how scary these situations can be and want to bring you peace of mind as quickly as possible. #Healthcare #PatientExperience #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #StrokeAwarenessMonth

Treating vestibular dysfunction requires exposing the system to complex environments to retrain it effectively. Sitting in a dark room isn’t the solution. About 1/3 of patients with concussions experience effects on the ocular system. Symptoms can include headaches in the front of the head and difficulty with tasks like math, science, or reading. 📚✏️ In this video, our patient is performing saccades and VOR 1 exercises both horizontally and vertically to improve their vestibular function. 👀⬅️➡️⬆️⬇️ At Therapy Partners of North Texas, we’re dedicated to helping you recover and get back to your daily activities. 💪 #ConcussionRecovery #VestibularTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #TherapyPartners #DFW #HealthAndWellness #OcularHealth #PostConcussion #PatientCare

In the hustle of the ER, patient-centered care remains paramount. This was a trauma case where the patient, post-road traffic accident, presented with a deep laceration over the left supraorbital region. Employing a layered closure technique, my focus was on restoring not just the anatomy but also meeting the patient's needs. Every case reinforces the commitment to delivering the best possible care. #ERdiaries #PatientOutcomes #TraumaCare

Before you get up in arms, I'll start by saying that in the concussion therapy space, there’s both. Compassion and empathy. HOWEVER, there is research that says that as providers/clinicians, we want to be compassionate, not necessarily empathetic. Empathy means we are taking on our patients pain and suffering~ and I'll tell you right now that that puts our own nervous systems into sympathetic activation. On the flip side, compassion and compassionate care, is being able to hear and be there and to validate without taking the pain on as our own. That’s a really important boundary and distinction for providers to have because if we continuously take on our clients pain as our own pain… that will burn us out. And we most definitely will not be able to serve our clients in the way that they need us to. So what do you think... equally important? Or does this logic ring true for you? * * * * * #concussiontreatment #concussionrehab #PCS #postconcussionsyndrome #PCSsucks #sportsinjury #sportinjury #injuryrecovery #sicknotweak #sportsmedicine #physiotherapist #Nanaimo #britishcolumbia #concussionnerds
